I watched this live monday night and as soon as he said it I thought to myself there's no way some one isn't going to say

What I think is racist is that you say it's racist. You can't ever mention a black person and fried chicken in the same sentence or say that a black person looks like another black person when they do.

As a sidenote I work in a restaurant that is known for southern cooking and about I'd say 30-40% of our guests are black, jj4short eats there often. I have to deal with this alot, like if a black person asks me for a recommendation on the menu there's no WAY in hell the first words out of my mouth are gonna be either the fried chicken or the collard greens. For the record I can say that black people don't order the fried chicken more than other things on the menu so I don't really believe the stereotype anyways but they do order the collard greens more than the white people.

What the hell would be wrong with recommending fried chicken to a black person in a restaurant anyway. If its a good entree then why not.

- Says there are a lot of obstacles in Vick's way of returning to the NFL, one of which would be not watching what he eats

I actually heard this while watching MNF... and my friends and I thought that same thing!!

 

On a side note, I don't really notice black people eating fried chicken moreso than any other race. I think everyone loves fried chicken. I know I do.

 

His comment was not really racist, it was just a poor choice of words. Now if he threw in some watermelon and collard greens then it would be a totally different thing.

3. This is as bad as the people who want Mike Vick dead over killing some dogs. I know I know America loves dogs and wants them to replace people because dogs basically can't judge how much you suck, while people can and point it out. Well KFC was one of the only places blacks could eat in the south without there being a whites only section so it became popular among blacks to eat fried chicken then there was the birth of the stereotype. So basically if it wasn't for southern white people being assholes we wouldn't have to deal with this. In conclusion blame whitey.

I think the owner didn't choose his words properly -- he could have just kept it simple and said he could eat a lot and gain weight / not be in NFL shape after he gets out of prison, etc.

It's borderline racist, but not anything that will get him in serious trouble. But I do think that it wasn't good PR on his behalf to say that on national TV.

I don't think its as bad as they make it out to be but!!!! He should still sit in jail 4 being so damn stupid. What's the story between watermelons and African Americans? I heard some of you guys say that it'd be considered racist had he mentioned watermelon.....? I don't know the story behind it.

 

I was at Publix and bought one of those little watermelon containers to eat for lunch. There was a black woman in front of me buying a whole watermelon.. she told me the watermelon I was buying was bad, and to not buy it. Thanks to stereotypes I saved $2-3, but didnt' get to eat any watermelon for lunch..

 

It's not racist. He could have made his point without mentioning food, or he could have mentioned other prison-type foods, but it's not racist.
