Yeah, that was funky. I was a lifeguard for a couple years and I've seen a lot of club swimmers, etc. All the African American swimmers.. never did well.
( :ibracistblackkidgif: )

I was surprised when that guy was in the relay.

It was a great race. My favorite moment so far. What made it even better was that the French were talking shit before the race!!

I have pretty much no idea about competitive swimming at all but wow that relay was insane. Swimming is actually pretty entertaining to watch!

Oh and I was watching the women's volleyball too, that was entertaining. I probably could have covered the top half of my TV with a tablecloth or something.... every time those chicks got in a huddle after a score/fault, my pants got tighter!

400 Free Relay = awesome

Jason Lezak rocked it for sure. Too bad Katie Hoff couldn't hold on in the 400. I really thought she had it until the last 25 meters. I also felt bad for Hansen in the breastroke. I didn't think he'd have a great meet after Trials.

I stayed awake just to see this race, and oh boy, I must say that was the most exciting swimming relay I have ever seen! It was just unbelievable how Lezak overtook Bernard during the last few meters and broke the world record!!!

Hmm, I haven't looked up any results yet. Wouldn't surprise me though.

Edit: Looks like he did.
Phelps sets Olympic record in prelims of 200m fly (8/11/2008)

Michael Phelps set an Olympic record in the prelims of the 200m butterfly Monday, turning in a time of 1:53.70. His swim came just hours after taking part in the American men's amazing finish in the 400m free relay.

"I don't want to say I cruised it, but I swam it the way I wanted," Phelps said. "It doesn't matter until finals. As long as you have a lane, you're in it."

Every American swimming in prelims Monday advanced to Tuesday morning's semifinals. Here's a look at what happened in Monday's prelims, and races to watch in tomorrow morning's semifinals and finals.

Women’s 200m Free: Semifinal
Italy’s Federica Pellegrini set the world record in Monday’s semifinals, turning in a time of 1:55.45. American record-holder Katie Hoff and Allison Schmitt are seeded fourth and seventh, respectively, with times of 1:57.20 and 1:57.38.

"It felt so smooth," Schmitt said. "I have learned so much from being at such an elite level. I'm more experienced, and I feel more prepared. Now I am focused on dropping my time in the semi and making finals."

Men’s 200m Free: FINAL
Peter Vanderkaay secured the first seed for tomorrow’s finals of the men’s 200m free, cruising to a time of 1:45.76 in Monday’s semifinals. World record-holder and defending world champ Michael Phelps qualified fourth in 1:46.28.

“I swam a lot better race than last night,” Vanderkaay said after semifinals Monday. “(Last night) it was a little hard coming off the finals of the 400. I’ve put myself in a good spot for tomorrow.”

Women’s 100m Back: FINAL
Zimbabwe’s Kirsty Coventry set the world record in semifinals Monday, her time of 58.77 breaking the former world record of 58.97 held by Natalie Coughlin. Coughlin will go head-to-head against Coventry in Tuesday’s finals, qualifying second with a time of 59.43. The two finished 1-2 at the 2004 Games in Athens, with Coughlin coming out on top of that match-up for her first career Olympic gold medal. American Margaret Hoelzer will also be in the mix, qualifying sixth for finals in 59.84.

“It’s exactly where I wanted to be going into the finals," Coughlin said. "I just need to recover and focus on my final.”

Men’s 100m Back: FINAL
Matt Grevers and Aaron Peirsol qualified as the second and fifth seed for tomorrow’s finals in 52.99 and 53.56, behind Australia’s Hayden Stoeckel. Stoeckel broke the Olympic record and was just eight-hundredths off the World record with his top-seed time of 52.97. Grevers held the former Olympic record of 53.41, which he set in Sunday night’s prelims.

Women’s 100m Breast: FINAL
Rebecca Soni and Megan Jendrick qualified second and seventh for Tuesday’s finals with times of 1:07.07 and 1:08.07, respectively. World record-holder Leisel Jones turned in the top time in 1:05.80, 71-hundredths of a second off her world record and 16-hundredths off the Olympic record she set in Sunday night’s prelims.

Men’s 200m Butterfly: Semifinal
Michael Phelps set the Olympic record in prelims on Monday night, turning in a time of 1:53.70. He is seeded more than seven-tenths of a second ahead of the next fastest swimmer, Laszlo Cseh of Hungary (1:54.48). Teammate Gil Stovall qualified eighth for semifinals in 1:55.42.

"It felt pretty easy," Stovall said. "I'm just trying to swim my own race and not get caught up."

Women’s 200m IM
Katie Hoff and Natalie Coughlin qualified as the second and third seeds for Tuesday’s finals, turning in times of 2:11.58 and 2:11.63, respectively. The top seed is Alicia Coutts of Australia in 2:11.55.

Anyone noticed the motion of Lezak's arms on the last lap? It seemed that most people do left-right-left-right-left-right but he was doing left-right-slight pause-left-right-slight pause.

Maybe my eyes were deceiving me, but his stroke didn't seem as fluid as the other, but whatever it worked for him.

I've seen Phelps do the same, its kind of a rythm thing. I think the pause is for the breath.
