They may not have the greatest offense but all they need are a few for that D to protect the lead. But, again, this is Favre we're talking about and he's torched Chicago plenty in his career already...

Lowly...I hit a nerve I see. I guess it is just habit referring to them as the Lowly Bears. This year's team is great though! I hope they can maintain momentum because I would be happy to see them beat Indy if both teams make it to the Big Game.

Question for the football nerds:
Why is it that the shotgun formation is not used more often? I always get the sense that if a QB starts from that, he always seems to pass better? As well, doesn't it allow for better protection if the O-line is not that great since the QB is already back and does not need to do his 7-step (or whatever) drop?

i believe it is because 90% of the time, the shotgun formation aim at a pass play. dropping under center allows 2 tailbacks to show the threat of a run.
Oh, and I am worried about Bears-Packers. They really need this win; its easy and their magic number is only 4. GO BEARS

I'm not disputing what you guys are saying about the inability to run...but, what's the difference if you line up two tailbacks with the QB in shotgun? Why does that make it hard to run?
#813
Most defense's just basically assume since your in shotgun your throwing. It's not that you don't see runs from the shotgun, just chances are most of the time it will be a third down play so it's probably smarter to throw than run...and the defense knows that so they adjust accordingly. Thats how I figure it

Now that I think about it, when is the last time you guys have seen a direct snap to a RB? I can't even remember. I see a lot of shotgun draw plays, etc but hardly ever direct snaps

If you're in a shotgun the QB most likely hands to the RB right next to him. Well the RB has no momentum and he's already several yards back where when the QB is up on the Center, the RB has space to pick up speed. Of course it's not impossible to run from this formation. The RB has a wider vision of holes opening up. However, with the speed of the NFL it's very difficult. I'm sure an NFL insider can also comment on line blocking schemes and play calling but this is my theory from my years of watching NFL.

An ever bigger is that this is only Favre's SECOND loss at Soldier field. He's 11-2 now against Da Bears in Chicago!

This was a very difficult win for them. Once again, it was all Defense+Special Teams. There is going to come a time when this football team is going to hit a brick wall. The Magic Number is 3, with 4 to go. I can't see them winning next week the way the offense played today. The Vikes have a decently easy schedule going the rest of the way. It's really sad how this unbelieveable Defense is being wasted by one of the worst offenses in the league.
Hey, they're 9-3 though, and finding ways to win. I'm just saying, come playoff time (I don't want to jinx anything, im used to far too much in terms of curses), this team needs to up its offensive production.

I can't believe my Boys lost to the Giants they had the game in the 2nd half but that horrible play calling killed them..4 minutes left 3 and 1 and play action pass to no one and then don't go for it on 4 and 1..Horrible game.. Also the Bills suck too, just thought I add that and the Bengals sleeper team of the year.

Well, as much as I love my Chicago Bears...
We're not going anywhere.
Yes, we did beat Green Bay, arch rivals. And we have had a good run.
But we have no offense to speak of.
We'll make the playoffs, but it will be one and out.
