For those of you considering the drive up to Richmond/Fredericksburg, take extra care on I-85 between the NC/VA line and Petersburg. The road condition is abyssmal. I destroyed a rim and tire on that stretch this past weekend on the way up to my cabin in PA. $900 later (at Crown Acura in Richmond - Ryan there was awesome) I have two new Michelins and a new rim on the TL. I'll take US 15 or I-95 North next time.

 

I travel from NC to NJ and back every few weeks. I take I-95 and stop at the Wawa in Fredricksburg (exit 130-A-B)and then continue until my destination. I have to say be careful if you drive on 95-it is not in the best condition.

additional: keep a eye on the speed limits-they are different as you drive along. Va is good for giving out speeding tickets and there seem to plenty of cops hiding waiting to bounce. Actually north of Fredricksburg (closer to Richmond) gets worse as far as road conditions go-especially the middle lanes.

 

virginia sucks for driving, period.

 

Maryland is in competition with Virginia.

 

Haha, and the District is the worst! Fitting that it's right in between.

 

The roads in DC are atrocious, especially 295. I've seen 5 people pulled over on 66 from Gainesville to the 495 interchange in one day, and I see cops hiding all the time on 81. Maryland isn't so bad IMO because I can use my radar detector there.

Even though they raised the speed limits on VA interstates from 65 to 70, that doesn't mean you can go faster...anything over 80mph is still considered reckless driving, and thats a huge ticket in VA.

 

I know-it was an expensive lesson learned near mile marker 110 on 95 in VA
Received a ticket with pictures of my tsx (very clear) in Maryland. They have speed cameras set up in construction zones. It was $40.00.

 

on one of my many journeys between NC and NJ i got a speeding ticket in VA that forced me to appear in court in spotsylvania, lawyer up, and after all was said and done drop $700 in lawyer/court costs.

 

is anybody staying overnight in VA for the meet and coming home sunday?? I'm driving back to NC Sunday wouldnt mind meeting up in VA and cruising with a few people for the duration of the ride back.

rptls, what time are you guys heading back to NC on sunday?? its my understanding that the meet is right off of i-95 so id be down to meet up and cruise back to nc with you guys.

 

Desmond that's really nice of you man! Thanks! My girlfriend and I actually made a day trip down to Wilmington and went to Kure Beach on Tuesday. I don't know how you deal with all of the traffic down there, especially during season.

 

traffic is even worse on weekends during the season. We go to Surf City on Topsail Island-free parking, free beach but no lifeguards. We try to get there before 10AM to get a parking space. It is about 13 miles from where we live. Ocean lovers so if it isn't this beach then it is the Jersey shore.
