Willow Springs Track Day June 1st

Seeing if anyone else wants to go with me. I am going to Willow Springs track day on Friday June 1st. It will be my first track day and it is open to beginners.

http://www.speedventures.com/events/...il.aspx?id=396

It is easy to sign up. Just register on the website.
Cost for the day is $99, I am registered in the beginners class.
You also need to fill out an inspection form and bring it with you. Really easy.
And you need a helmet or they rent them for $30.

Just figured I would post this here in case anyone is interested.

nice! karting is fun. I have only been to those indoor tracks recently, I remember going to outdoor tracks once or twice when I was like 10.

Have you taken the Genesis or the Miata to a track ot autocross yet? I might be doing autocross in El Toro on the 17th. That might be easier/closer for a lot of people I know willow springs is pretty far.

19x9.5/10.5+22 stretched. Tires I think are 225 25 ~. I'm sure my staggered setup on a FWD will not help.lol

why not rent a helmet?

Couple deterrents. This is about 1.5 hr drive from downtown LA. Also they want you to arrive at 6:50am for prep, track time starts at 8, so you would have to get up pretty early.

Upside, not many cars are registered yet so there is a possibility of getting a lot of track time in.

You can go with that setup, the car just won't handle as well. So yea, kind of defeats the purpose.

Rented helmets are probably dirty or something, I dunno I used a helmet at a kart place and they gave us clean washed head cover things to put on, so it wasn't bad. I dunno how this place does it.

yea.. it was pretty fun last time i went.. Mike (aznbo187) runs this event with his M club.. haha

i haven't taken neither of my cars.. plan was to take miata this season but....

expected piston rings went and valve seals.. resulted in another bad head gasket. lol.. so instead of tracking the miata this year.. i'll just be replacing the motor and doing other repairs while the motors out. haha.

maybe if i can get my hands on a welder i could do some stitch welding in the bay.. lmao.. idk. lol.

you dont want that.. if you still have your stocks.. just use those... and.. do brake fluid to dot4.. don't want your dot3 fluid heating up and ruining the fun.. lol

Damn that sucks, well hopefully it pays off in the long run and you get to do some tracking next year. My coworker who got me into this has a 1999 Miata I think it is and he goes to autocross. They are perfect cars for it.

Yea no worries if you can't make it. Like I said I will probably hit up El Toro on the 17th for autox which is a lot closer for most people.

You basically just register for an event from a variety of groups. My Miata buddy uses this site mainly:
http://www.solo2.com/EventCalendar.asp

I am registered with them and now I am also registered with Speed Ventures (http://www.speedventures.com/events/Default.aspx) and Xtremespeed (https://www.extremespeedtrackevents....t-registration)

So basically, go to a website, make an account, register for event, done!

AutoX registration is usually cheaper but it is also more crowded = less runs. My friend paid $70 last time but he only got 4 runs in all day! Which lasted like 1 minute each. The track I am going to is $99 but you get a lot more seat time and its a huge, genuine race track, so I think it is a better value. I guess it all depends how crowded it is and where you go, etc. Well you know you have been. Have you done both Streets of Willow and Big Willow?

Here is the google maps to the airfield.
http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&q=...20Great%20Park
If you zoom in and look around you can see tire marks and even track setups all around the airstrip lol

Side note: It is the same place they film Top Gear USA guest star laps and other shots.

Big Willow > Streets. But, Streets is open more often.

Yes lol but they missed out on all the fun canyons thats why when i headed home i went back through them myself

its actually too hard doing a group canyon run because everyone drives at different levels i think the track would be best suited because you can pass

You got an IS-F and now you are too good to go to the track with a lowly TL owner. Gotta go with all the IS-F guys...I see how it is.

Wait Sean why arent you going on Saturday? There seems to be a lot more cars closer to our hp. And will they have "lockers" there for my wheels? I dont want to drive my slicks all the way up there if I do decide to go.

Dude I am totally fucked, I think I might have to go in the HREs

I cannot get these wheel spacers off my car they are totally seized up and I snapped 2 of the spacer keys trying to remove them.

The reason I need them off is my RPF1s don't fit because the original lugs stick out too much. There is no clearance on the back like the HREs have.

I either need to cut my lug nuts or buy more spacer keys and try again but I have a feeling they will all break. These spacers are on my car permanently. Never buying spacers again...

That sucks, did you let it soak in one of those loosening solutions? Maybe a shop with some proper tools could remove them?

Lol! Sean would have to submerge his car in water to let the spacers soak in any type of solution.

Oops, that was embarrassing. Does anyone know if stock brake fluid is safe for this mild racing?

It's racing...no such thing as mild. If you're wanting to drive mild, then the track is not the place to do it...and to answer your question:

NO. You'll be good for 2 laps. Then you'll have to sit. You're going to crap your pants as you hit the turn and your brake pedal will be up against the firewall, but your car is going the same speed. This is the most important thing you'll need, IMHO. This is even more important than performance tires. You can make it around the track on all-season rubber, but not OEM brake fluid.

It's a beginners race, there isn't even any passing for the first half of the day. I'd rather perfect the driving line than go straight out to pummeling the track like an idiot. I'll see if I can get some performance fluid before the race. I'm having the drilled/slotted brakes from Brakemotive and a B&M transmission cooler installed today along with a DW-1 trans-flush. I'd hate for my fluid to be the weakest link when I spent money trying to ensure the longest possible time on the track on everything else. If I end up liking the event, I'll upgrade to steel braided brake lines etc. But as far as I'm concerned this may be a one time thing and I don't want to sink too much money into something I might only do once.

Bought 2 more spacer keys this morning, luckily a local speed shop had some and then took my car to a garage and they heated them and got the spacers off! Now just have to go back to my friends tonight and put the wheels on since they are in his garage. I wish I had a damn garage lol

Also just checked the list wow a lot more cars are signed up now!

See you at the track Chai or Anthony I guess your name is going by the list?

Track mode engaged! Finally got my wheels on

Shitty cell pics as the sun was setting

I really like the way these feel when driving. I think I am just going to sell the HREs and use these as my daily.
