I agree a manual transmission would be a better option, but I don't really have a partner in crime to help me with the whole conversion .. not to mention $2,000 extra bucks to get all the additional parts
.
I would rather just drop $250 - $300 on a moderately used AT and use the rest of the money for bolt ons.
What I would love to do is get the VQ35 motor and drop a 6MT with LSD .. now that would be an ultimate sleeper with some basic bolt ons and weight reduction!
@ Joe: seriously dude, I am down to grab a couple beers .. I'll keep my eye on this thread for an upcoming meet .. maybe I'll surprise you with my yoder!

Pretty good. That thunder storm we had last night was great. I loved it. haha
I'm probably not the guy to ask since I'm new to this thread myself, but there's a comment up above where someone's talking about possibly trying to organize a BBQ when the weather clears.

I am buying that Maxima for $500 ... perfect candidate for a project car!
Here's what we got:
2000 Nissan Maxima GLE
175,000 miles
Blown transmission
All service records and the engine runs strong.
I want to do a manual conversion so bad, but I just don't have the money for it.
I'll drop another AT, strip it out, and add some basic bolt ons and I'm fairly confident it will be faster than my fully bolted TL

I get that Maxima either tomorrow or Wednesday. The car starts right up .. everything works .. I think it's going to be wonderful once it's fixed.
I started it up and put it into drive .. made the most obnoxious whining sound in any gear .. D, 1, 2, 3, R .. everything besides park :P.
Fortunately, the car moves forward .. so I don't have to push a 3200 pound sedan on a trailer! WOOT.
Found a couple transmissions for $350 / $400 .. all have about ~70,000 miles on them.

I dunno how much you want to spend on the transmission... But there's shops that rebuild transmissions... If you plan to do that, you can also get your torque converter modified so it will jump off of starts
