single vs. dual exhaust..

Okay so I am going to get an exhaust for my car, and I know our cars are not true dual. Does anyone have a sound clip of a single exhaust TL? Are there and advantages of either of the two?

By going the single outlet route, you can save weight, save money, and make the same amount of power if not more than a typical dual outlet design.

At the moment I dont have any active soundclips, but there should be some on youtube somewhere. My buddy Dat has almost the same setup that i have and I was lookin at one of his video clips the other day. Search HKS and TL.

First step would be to choose a muffler of your choice. Some popular ones are the HKS carbon Ti or the Apex N1. Any model will do really. Try to use 2.5 inch piping, and just have meineke or whomever run the pipe from the 3rd cat back. If you don't feel like spending that much you can just have them weld the muffler to the OEM piping.

...if you click on that link you will see what my buddy with a CL did about a month ago. He bought a Apex N1 and had meineke weld it on for like 40 bucks. If you go the single route this is what it will sound like for the most part.

yeah im thinkin the hks carbon ti, but what size muffler is right? because there are a few dif sizes i noticed and people around here say like the outlet pipe i think if its a certain size can only hold so much power...
and that video sounds great

The carbon Ti has two sizes, a small one and a big one. At first i went with the small one and over time decided it was too small so i went with the larger one. If you go with the Carbon Ti i would suggest the larger of the two.

ACCURATE pretty much said it.

I will add that a plus of the dual exhaust is with the same muffler, it will be quieter than a single.

As far as pipe sizes, a single mandrel bent 3" will flow enough for a 10 second car. A dual 2.5" will flow substantially more. A single mandrel bent 2 3/4" would be more than enough even for a supercharged TL.

dual tips look better; for me the weight savings of a single exhaust doesn't counter that the car will look unbalanced with a single outlet; it's one thing to take a single outlet standard muffler and putting dual on it, or replacing the single w/ another single, but taking a car that has a molded rear bumper and styling specifically for the dual exhaust is bleh.. good luck trying to make it look good

Actually the single exit looks pretty damn aggresive and since our car has a jdm heritage it brings some of that jdm look back as opposed to the wanabe german styling it now holds, I pondered the single exit but caved in for the greddy evo2 because of the price I got it from a local guy... If I were to switch my setup for anything it would be using the apexi titanium canister with 2.5" tubing single exit

Good luck and definetly post pictures of the install

I definitly agree with you. You are going to have a hole in the bottom of the bumper where the other exhaust outlet was. Not to appeasing to the eyes just to save a few pounds.

hks's mufflers are either 4.7 tip with 2.9 inlet pipe or 3.7 tip with 2.3 inlet pipe. if i am going 2.5 pipe, the inlet pipe on the muffler would have to be that or larger right?

yeah i believe i am going with the HKS power proven, i will more than likely order it tonight but id still like to know if i should run it with a high flow cat, resonator and 2.5 piping OR flex pipe resonator with 2.5 piping. i need some advice because i am still new to the exhaust world haha. and thanks for the help so far!

and the talk about single looking dif, yeah it will be a dif look with the hole on the other side of the bumper but personal preference and i love the way the dual looks but im just getting somethng dif. and added power

Replace the 3rd cat with a megan test pipe
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Megan...3286.m20.l1116

2.5" tubing mandrel if you can

hks turbo muffler, I'd get the titanium burnt tip one
try it without a resonator first, if it is too loud then install an aero resonator (aero25 is the part number)

Yes you can. I had a friend test my car with the third cat gutted. You don't need to waste money on a test pipe when you can gut your convertor for free.
