Had the joy of going out to see a completely flat rear with a nasty nail in it this morning after we returned from a weekend trip to DFW, too close to the edge to plug. (Thanks for the memento Arlington, ugh). Really wasn’t feeling dropping the spare just to go 8 miles down the road, and despite knowing I should have a compressor at home, I don’t. Until I checked my ‘15 Accord, and bam! Tire sealant/inflator kit. (I also noticed the goop is a couple years expired, oops I should remedy that now that I know).
Worked like a charm, got to see the auto beeping/hazard light notification on the RDX during the fill (very cool), and made it to Costco. 3 hours later, drove off w/4 new Michelin CrossClimate2s. I was happy to use the excuses that they didn’t carry Contis, Discount/NTB/etc we’re closed being a Sunday, and not wanting to mix/match even on different axels to upgrade from the OE, despite the low mileage. Love the unexpected aggressive look of them too.
Now though, I want an inflator for the RDX. While I don’t plan to use goop unless a fill doesn’t hold for a short distance drive and/or I don’t need to drop the spare, it’d be nice to have. (Just like today, 4 mins vs me bumbling around in 97* temps to put the spare on for a short drive). Since I don’t need the foam tray & such, just the inflator/sealant kit, is this the correct part, assuming I don’t want a generic kit from someone, (I like staying OE on some things, dunno why, just me).

If the above are the correct part #s, Acura is $129, versus $106 for Honda. Anyone know if there’s a legit difference? More/less sealant in the container for the Honda maybe?
Appreciate any info, all I found searching was threads for A-Spec folks adding the spare, not the other way around.
Our RDX took on a roofing nail (and lost) yesterday so I had the "opportunity" to try out the inflator and its tire sealant. It worked pretty well as the tire got inflated up to 30psi so I could drive it to a tire store. The tire needed to be replaced as the nail puncture was too close to the sideway. The price of a new Continental tire has been impacted by the recent rise in oil prices (or so I was told by the tire salesperson).
However, the real shock came later when I tried to replace the tire sealant and found out from the Acura dealer that it cost $129 and a replacement inflator (with tire sealant) would cost me $250!!! It was clear that the tire sealant container was designed to be easily replace in the inflator, so why is 450ml of tire sealant so expensive? When a 16oz bottle of Slime costs less than $10, I started to think there must be some lower cost after-market solutions available to refill the sealant container in my Honda p/n 42770-TZ5-A010 inflator.
I also was surprised to learn that the tire sealant used by Honda/Acura vehicles has a 5-year shelf life. This means there must be some enterprising suppliers out there with a lower-cost tire sealant for these inflators. Given the increasing number of vehicles without spare tires and a limited shelf-life, there must be millions of potential customers waiting for a better solution.
Please let me know where Acura RDX owners go to replace the tire sealant at reasonable prices.
Wouldn't a can of 'Fix A Flat' or STP Tire Fix essentially do the same thing as the inflator kit that comes with the RDX's that don't have a spare (for a fraction of the price)? They fill the tire with essentially the same 'goop' and inflate it to some drive-able level. I have an A-Spec and bought the spare tire kit because some flats cannot be fixed with goop. And you always keep a small 12V compressor in the storage bay to top off the air pressure if needed. I know it's not 'OEM'...but a lot cheaper.
Also, RBP3072....those tires look great on the RDX.
I would never use tire sealant unless you planning to trash the tire after you get to your destination.

Well, I would agree with that part, even though that is exactly what Acura provides for A-Specs, along with a compressor. I would think that if you were the repair guy on a tire with sealant, it would be a messy affair. I can't imagine how you get that mess cleaned up. I would guess this stuff is more for the car owner to get them (easily) out of a difficult situation, like a flat). Not wanting to use it is why we added the spare tire kit to our A-Spec.
I heard that some tire places will refuse to fix tires sprayed with sealer.
it might be difficult to remove
maybe if its real emergency when your safety is more important than saving a tire, but otherwise I would avoid using spray sealer.
