Yup. Even our Acura V6 runs noticably better on 93.

Ah octane threads..
You're not imagining things. What's occurring is the lower octane fuel is causing detonation / knock.
Your engine management system is like whoa.. fuck this shit.. so it pulls timing and possibly drops boost.

When it pulls timing.. spark is occurring at a less optimal threshold.
This allows for the fuel to cool down the cylinder and help prevent detonation
Otherwise it could lead to a domino effect.

The consequence of this is reduced power and inefficient burn of fuel.
In many cases, unburnt fuel is actually sent down the exhaust where it does damage to your primary cats.

Again, you and the misses are not imagining things.
Using lower octane is shitting on your powahs and mpgeees.
To be clear, nearly most of the premium gas octanes here are 91. Mobil/Esso, Shell, Costco, and etc.

So, it was just recently that I found a few that carry 94-grade (called "ultra" grade). And yeah, seems the car does perform a bit better. Thanks!

I feel like Maj's post should be stickied on every model's subform.

Bunch of idiots on those forums arguing endlessly about whether octane matters.

Required vs. recommended are the key words.

If the cars says required, then don't cheap out on the gasoline and go with a lower grade. In my case, I just wanted to make sure that despite going with premium (91), is something with even more octane even better or just my imagination.

I tell them to use the cheapest and lowest octane possible

That's marketing bullshit

Honda says required and recommended for the same engine in different cars in the same segment
You'll see the real world tests prove that the lower octane has reduced power and mpg

It's because cheap ass buyers don't want to buy a car that says premium required
Lead marketers tie off with the chief engineer, will it work? Yeah but.. okay cool!

This x10. Honda/Acura wants to be able to sell to people who don't want to pay for higher octane fuel, so they throw a recommended in the manual even though their mileage and performance number are on premium.

LMAO...
I was raised by a European hippie...I'm open minded as fuck but...
no...not that. I don't share and I don't want anyone else when I'm in
a committed relationship.
I did have a slew of 2 week committed relationships in my 20's though.

You know if I could have any one of your 6, or so, vehicles it would be the Ody.

Case in point, the OP here who broke his windshield within a few days and then, cheerfully drove into a curb to decorate his rim.

Quick rinse as it's been pretty muddy with all the snowfall...I'll do a better wash once it gets a bit cooler.

I guess that's how car washes are when it's -20°C 80% of the year.
