The Macan GTS, bare-bones...starts at $76K CAD. I suppose I could consider the S but if I were getting the Macan, I'd probably want to start at the GTS trim. 
Just doesn't make sense. I'd love a Panamera but, just can't even get in one given that the base-BASE model is over $90K to start.

If you're unaware.. the S is twin turbo'd still.. it's a 3.0L vs a 3.6L
The GTS is the same as S just a little more aggressive tune and some goodies from Turbo

Only a minor tune.. not worth 15k.. unless you're Taco

Our pricepoint is around $40K CDN. And yeah, cross-over is the class we're going for. So, because of our budget, Audi, Volvo, and Acura are out.
The CR-V is possible but the wife is finicky in what she drives. She wants something that is "small" and yet, can cram baby/toddler crap into it. So, does not give us much choice. So, after looking around, the MINI and BMW were the finalists.
The thing is, she does NOT at all like the X1 after sitting in the Countryman. If it were up to me, I'd go after the X1...but, since the Countryman is based off the X1, I suppose you are getting the same car abeit with a touch less cargo space.
Still, I'm kinda miffed she won't just make do with the FX. If I knew she found it too "big", I would've been in an S5.

Back to the discussion, I think the RDX, Q5, XC60 and CR-V are still in the crossover category. I would put all of them above the countryman and most auto critics agree.
Plus.. the 4 crossovers I mentioned come AWD standard whereas the Mini is optional. I understand your wife might be timid driving a larger vehicle but for her safety and your child
and for practicality, I'd remove the mini.
I wouldn't condone selling the FX50.. but if it meant you get an S5.. then by all means.

Thanks for the input, guys. I'll talk it over with her some more. As of right now, the Countryman (S, which has AWD) is in the lead just because she is absolutely in love with the look, drive...
My first choice (believe it or not, was the X1) given my "vow" to try not to ever own a BMW no matter how much I think they are very good cars. The other thing is indeed the optics too. The MINI, while it does stand out, does not have the same optics as owning a BMW...and well, we already own an FX50.
And yeah, it is a weird one. The FX is relatively undriven during the week unless I really force Tina into it. She still prefers to putz around in the Mazda3. One possible option is for us to trade in the Infiniti and get 2 lower-end vehicles. But, I dunno...I'm not sure if that makes sense financially given what I'd lose on the FX.
And well, 390HP in a crossover isn't too shabby when I feel like hooliganing it on the weekend.
