It is one of those cars that looks a lot better in person. Low, wide, and mean looking. The new Accord is another now that I have seen one.

 

Think they are making progress & acceptance. My grandsons car is very sweet. Lexus went through the same process when they first came over with what were MB clones right down to the body style. Car was the cheapo knockoff & now they are a major luxury brand.

 

The a5 sb is my next car. It’s on order and once I get i will either turn in the Tlx a few months or sell it. I will see what happens to Acura in the future. I hope Acura makes everyone happy then.

 

I had a 2014 TL SH-AWD Advance that I sold to buy the new S5 Coupe after seeing and driving Audi's redesign. All I can say is the car is awesome and continues to amaze me daily even with 6,000 miles under my belt now. Yes, the price is about $15K more than a TLX, but the car offers so much more than the TLX and is something that Acura does not currently offer in any model for the same price range. It also has one of the smoothest transmissions I have ever driven and always seems to pick the right gear for the job. It is really a shame because Audi uses a ZF 8 speed transmission in this car and it has received nothing but praise. This tells me that for what ever reason it must really be the programming Acura uses for its ZF transmissions that make it less than an excellent transmission. And lets face it, if Acura does come out with a Type-S with anywhere near the performance numbers of the S4/S5 models the price will be up there with the Audi, especially if they try to compete with features the Audi has like HUD, Virtual Cockpit, Google Earth Maps, Traffic Jam Assist, and adjustable sport exhaust. I do a lot of back road/canyon type driving and it is so nice to have a turbo engine that delivers smooth, strong acceleration coming out of turns with a sport rear differential that makes the car feel like it is on rails and then back in city traffic driving it is really nice to engage traffic jam assist and let the car take over the stop & go and keep the car centered in the lane and turning on the massaging seat feature (no joke).

 

I am leaning towards audi next spring. Expensive but looks to be well worth the investment. The sportback is intriguing. I have to see it in person and drive it. Don't think I'll go for the S versions though.

 

If you are looking at the A5, the starting price is around $43k and the top prestige model is $50K so the price point is even closer to the TLX. If you go with the 4 door (the A4), you can even order it with a 6 speed manual transmission and Audi even gives you the option to order the exact car you want from your local dealer. You will have about a 3 to 4 month wait if you order from scratch since the car is built in Germany, but you get exactly what you want with the exact options and colors. That is what I did with my S5, and I was so glad I did since there were so many different configurations that could be selected.

 

ill start looking after this winter. I need to test drive each one. One important factor is step in height. I hate a car that is too low. I had a mustang as a rental recently and hated it. I want to compare the A4 and A5 models.

 

a4 and a5 have same engine

a5 has better looks the sportback is nicer

 

I have heard the same information from my Acura Sales Manager regarding the RDX. Interestingly, he thinks a lot of their buyers opt for it because it still has a smooth 6 cylinder engine.

I still own two Acuras. So I hang here.

And an A4. So I hang there.

TLX just didn't do it for me. Never settle. It will just make you bitter.

Unless the TLX gets better for the 2019 model, expect more Audi/Kia/Genesis/Honda/Infiniti/Buick comparisons to show up as leases expire. Many members have more than one model, easy to compare while still being relevant to Acurazine.

Prototype...means shit to me after the TLX prototype. What's the point when final version only months away can be very different. Just show us real thing.

I would have released the prototype before the detroit auto show to build REAL hype at the show!

They did say that the new RDX will ride on a new exclusive Acura platform, although from what we saw on the spy pics, it looks no different from any transverse layout SUVs in the market today.

this is a teaser of a concept. it's not even a teaser of the real deal

 

I know, right? It could be the best looking vehicle in its class, be supremely comfortable, put down 350hp, use SH-AWD, get 40 mpg on the highway, with a 0-60 of 4.7 seconds, pull .95g on the skid pad and there would still be criticism of it simply because it has "Acura" on its deck lid. It will very likely not have specs close to that but my point is for some it would never be good enough. Acura hate is that strong around here.

 

Why show a prototype this late into production, just call it the RDX. Hate goes to management in this case. You're speculation of good means nothing with Acura, it's still "believe it when we see it".

 

So it's confirmed, the RDX is getting the 2.0T afterall. Interesting.

I find it surprising they mention the 8DCT as a possible transmission choice on the new RDX. A-Spec? Type S?

Wouldn't make sense to offer two different automatics, mated to the same engine, putting out the same power. Seems like Acura may have a trick up it's sleeve.

From the teaser shot, I'd say the RDX will look quite handsome. Acura is back to using sharp lines in their designs- something I've been hoping they'd get back to again.

 

and how is nobody excited about the fact they just announced an "Exclusive" platform for the RDX, exclusive to Acura? That is huge news! This isn't just a rebranded CR-V afterall. Is Acura finally listening? Makes sense they would do this for the RDX... one of their best sellers. They will definitely not follow suit with the TLX, simply due to diminishing sedan sales, across the market.

Acura's management has fucked up it's products for the last 10 years.
with the NEW RDX concept, we will see if acura has turned things around.
I want Acura to succeed! (I'm a honda fan boy after all and love their early 90s products.)

if they can pull the new RDX off and compete with the SQ3 or SQ5, then I'm all for it!!

That RDX image looks very production ready. It doesn't look like there is anything OMG out of the ordinary about it... I don't see why it couldn't make it into production as shown. Acura is quite clear with their intentions, I have come to learn. They are very clear when something is a concept.

The styling cues and tech will definitely go forward to the new TLX. Hell, just updating the head unit would make a world of difference. I would expect that all future models would have the tech from the new RDX in it. Now just when will we see a new TLX? Probably 2020 I'm assuming?

 

YOU are right, Acura is very clear...That's why they titled it as a PROTOTYPE

Whoa. This slipped by unnoticed in one of the RDX prototype pieces.

"Cadillac passed Acura in October as the fifth-bestselling premium/luxury brand in U.S. sales, year-to-date", and the extra 2,000 or so XT5 compact sport/utilities sold the last few months versus RDX SUVs accounts for much of that success. Honda’s premium brand strikes back next month at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit with the formal unveiling of its third-generation Acura RDX, self-described as the brand’s “most extensive redesign in a decade.”

 

Looks like the NSX dashboard below the screen. I see what looks like a big dial that says "Dynamic" on it where the NSX IDS dial is. And possibly a touch pad below the transmission buttons.

 

The touch pad is the one thing I really didn't like about the precision cockpit. Doesn't work on Lexus models, should keep on using rotary dials for safety when driving.

 

Yeah, I wonder if that will ever work. Then again it could be just a cup holder i'm staring at.

 

MUCH improved interior. I hate the touchpad on Lexus models too. It's even worse than the mouse knob thing they have and that thing tracks like crap as well. Rotary and/or touchscreen all the way.
