You got me thinking now - I may just run a crap ton of brake cleaner through them so it evaporates ... I don't want degreaser going into the IM.
I'd be extra careful with this and let it evaporate for days and blow low pressure air through if you can. Brake cleaner fumes are extremely explosive and cause pretty decent backfires that could mess some stuff up.

The roll racing will put your work to the test.

Definitely.

Indeed.

So, small update.

While it doesn't appear to be an issue with the clutch's operation / function, I am experiencing an interesting sound from the clutch during engagement. It's really only taking off in 1st & Reverse, otherwise, all other gears engage with no noise. The noise can be described as chatter, but more of a metallic rubbing sound.

I've ruled out that it's not a pilot / throwout bearing issue since it doesn't happen in neutral - it only happens as the clutch "slips" off of the flywheel as I'm moving forward (1st gear / Reverse)

I've been through around 3-4 tanks of gas .. so I'm at the end of my break-in period.

I contacted ClutchMasters and they seem to think as long as the clutch is operating normally (clutch engagement, gear engagement, etc) it should be fine.

I'm hoping it goes away as the materials become more acquainted - If this clutch holds over 450wtq on E85 and it doesn't slip .. I won't address the issue.

If it does, I'm in for a 3rd motor pull and possibly just switching clutch setups all together.

This weekend I plan on tackling the fuel pump and getting a few more revisions done on the tune - this will tell me if I have something wrong with the clutch disk or not.

Don't some clutches have more chatter than others? Especially stronger clutches that can handle your TQ levels?

Yeah, strong clutches typically have chatter more than others ... but from what I've seen, the type / weight of flywheel you choose is what determines how much chatter you'll have.

The sound I'm hearing is almost if the clutch / flywheel surfaces aren't properly mated.

Clutchmasters & my tuner said to just drive a bunch of stop & go and report back.

Lets hope the sound starts to go away after you put on more miles and you don't have to pull the motor again.

Didn't even know you were thinking of selling the S2k. So I'm guessing Jaw-knee didn't buy it, or did he? (doubt it)

A friend of a friend has a fit and he loves it. He hauls is husky around town in it. He slightly modded it as well. I know we have an Azine member who has a modded fit down in SoCal.

Also, did anyone else catch that Tyler said the S2k doesn't fit his needs right now.

Sold the S2k and bought a "daily" Honda Fit.

Daily actually means to haul my newborn around in.

Congrats Tyler?

No mini-me / mini-wifey on the way, we're still waiting for a bit ...

Truth be told, the Fit makes an amazing daily.

I drove the exhaustless S4 100 miles yesterday ... the clutch is brutal, the sound is deafening, the boost comes on strong, it's an animal ... sometimes it's nice just to turn up the stereo and relax on the way to work.

The contrast keeps a great balance.

Nice ride! I've been looking at B5 S4s for a few months. After looking through your entire thread, I'm not too sure if I can keep up with the maintenace. I don't think I'm mechanically inclined enough

From my search, it looks like clean examples with around 100k miles go for close to 10k and the not so clean ones with 150k+ miles go for around 5k. I will have to keep on searching for a nogaro blue or an imola yellow example.

Thanks much.

After owning the car for 2 years, I think reliability comes down to how far you want to take it.

Simple tune & bolt-ons, car will give you little issues assuming all maintenance is up to date ... it's when you want to throw another 200whp where things can go kaboom.

Or in my case, assembling it myself

2 hard lessons learned already.

Oh yeah ... Motor pull #3 is happening.

After further research, I believe I have diagnosed my issue being a bad pilot bearing

I thought by the 3rd motor pull I would have larger turbos, rods, and meth injection ...

Funny how your plans suddenly change.

How much more would it cost to just knock all that shit out now?
You will have to go all the way to the edge before jumping off!

I can sense your enthusiasm starting to wane. Don't give up, man...hard not to be disappoint and at least you know if you can make it through this you can
survive any shitty relationship with any woman and end up staying married for a long long time.

Damn dude, I wish I could come help with this and learn how to pull a motor as I've never done it before. I was just down in your hood Tuesday and Wednesday but it was a fast and furious trip that left no time for fun stuff.

I wouldn't want Sam around. He'd have the original turbos and suspension and wheels back on when you weren't looking. Fuck that.

Read the sig bro, read the sig. If I did that, Tyler would be wondering why his car was magically running just fine.

Also, we were all pushing him to put on the OE wheels...

If I went balls to the walls (built transmission w/ cryo-treated gear sets, RPM rods, fail safe meth kit, K24 turbos, etc) .. it would be at least another 4-6k. Not really an option at this point.

I am feeling pretty unmotivated to touch the car lately with a lot left to do; fuel pump + new wiring, install & wire wideband, install intercoolers (involves shaving core support), and do many other tuning revisions.

It's surprisingly not that difficult with 2 people ... last time we had the motor out in just under 4 hours.

Once the motor goes on the Fit ... I'm K-Swapping it. Maybe you can swing by for that motor pull

Yeah.

This is my first ever "build" - first clutch job, first turbo installation, first everything pretty much .. there's bound to be mistakes .. some by improper installation, some just plain bad luck.

I don't have a choice except for moving forward. The positive side of me says the car will be much more enjoyable to me when it's all said and done

Far from a mastertech, I'd say familiar with the B5 platform and that's being generous

Depending on how the rest of this project goes .. next car will be fast from factory and I'll be done with it
