^^read prior posts...concerns over aftermarket axles, some are fine, others have failed early. i know another member with raxles (AT) which went bad after a year or so. he's moderately dropped. IIRC i think he said raxles are no longer available for the TL (someone else can confirm or deny this).

Raxles are still available for AT...not for MT...dunno about the member who had a raxle go bad...seems weird....either way they have a lifetime warranty so wouldnt be an issue to get replaced. Im dropped 2 inches and both my axles are fine its been about 2 years since I replaced them

Old debate but the 6mt guys will go through axles much quicker than with the auto. It's the shock of the manual that destoys them. Also, anytime you're starting off and have the wheels turned you're wearing the axles. I try to avoid lots of throttle when I have the steering wheel turned, especially when it's turned to full lock.

So what brand do you have on your car; im dropped aswell...I've read the previous posts that's the only reason I posted; people just said go to advanced auto or oreilly's but im sure I can't just ask for a "raxle" for an 05 TL...

www.raxles.com <--- a raxle is the name of the company that manufacturers the axles for our cars

These are not the cheap shit you buy at autozone and advanced auto, etc. They are made in the USA and are much higher quality. Go to their website and call Marty and he will take care of you. I do not know if the OEM price has dropped or not but I paid 340 for two new ones. Compared to OEM these look beefier in my opinion and I have had no issues with them. They use synthetic grease on the CV joints and the boots are a much higher quality rubber than the OEM ones.

SEP is strictly an Acura part. Honda dealerships love it when you call them about these

Others may cross reference with multiple Honda/Acura vehicles.

Pretty sure the 3G TL axles also cross fit Accords, not 100% sure on that.

Not cheap through either Honda or Acura last I checked.

I think your issue was also buying inadequate aftermarket substitutions.

Raxles like others chimed in below are far superior quality than OEM. You didn't mention what kind you got.

Also this is 3G TL specific thread

Anyone on here had tried, or heard of 07-08 base TL axles being interchangeable on a 04-06 TL. Reason asking is due my TL needing axles and, also current price for 04-06 TL Axles, $553 for left, $508 for right, compared to $150 each side on 07-08 Base TL.

Believe they use different splines and length than the 04-06 due to different trans. Raxles is your best bet, just got my passenger side for 220

Whats the symptoms of a bad axle, I have a vibration but think it's a bent rim on Type S. Getting a shimmy in steering and a sound from 40 - 55 then just vibration which gets worse and better dependind on the road.

Thanks for your help CSMEANCE I'm going Raxles! now time to find a shop for the install -__-

@Gregster62 well the symptom is that is had a shimmy/ vibration around 15-25 mph and it goes away. Rockstar told me that his TL's had the same symptom and was always the axle and also due to being lowered aswell which I did

Inspect for rust

Inspect for rust...during an oil change noticed the rubber damper had degraded and rust was forming. Thought it would be ok until I did the compliance bushings. Well it snapped about 4 months later. Notice that the rust significantly ate away the axle reducing its diameter to the point of failure.

i sure hope you've found your part number for those axles its been 2 months. my axles went bad 3yrs maybe 4YRS. My right side finally snapped when i made a hard left turn from stopping at an intersection waiting for oncoming traffic to clear. i cleared the turn and rolled 1 block and parking it till I was able to tow it. Replaced with Raxles love the quality and customer service. I installed both ends and used my intermediate shaft. I am now hearing a knocking ever so often with revolutions of the shaft. Imagine the sound coming from loose axle soft clunking in the floorboard area. I was told there is too much play in the axle. and to go back to oem. I am going to inspect the bushing on the intermediate shaft. I will still be searching this thread for other possibilities. check any acura oem parts site look through the catalog and you can find the part number

What was your cure? RAXLES were the cause or something else?
Looks like you're the only one here having problem with Raxle axles.

Hmmm, axles are typically referred to as "half-shafts", did you order a new "intermediate-shaft"? If so, did you also order a new intermediate-shaft bearing?

Pretty sure if he ordered a new intermediate shaft assembly, it includes the bearing, shaft and carrier.

Yes the two axles and the int shaft assy. Debated doing just the bearing but wanted to make it as easy as possible

CV axle from Napa for 2005 Acura TL

I'm new, and I came across accuson and began reading articles .when I started researching parts for my car there's a lot of talk about axles I couldn't afford to go with OEM, , or the raxles. I finally found one at Napa, CV axle right front. It had extra bellows on boot that connects to the transmission. just like the one that came out. there's no dampener but so far it's running great no vibrations, and I got it to about 85 right after installing.
Axle $96.49, labor $125
I also kept my old axle and I probably could have replaced the boot. but I'm thinking I'm going to have it rebuilt. So to get it where I have a spare
if I need it, or maybe sell it ,who knows..
Thanks

I know there are other owners, that are working on a tight budget, so I hope you get to check out this.

The place to buy the axles is rockauto. Cheaper and just as good, $35-$55 to be precise, I have APWI's for 2 years now and they're just fine.

Whatever you do,toss the old ones. Don't rebuild!!! Paul, our star master mechanic here in Nawth Jerzy and my best bud from High School who owned an auto parts store for 25 years, BOTH highly recommend AGAINST using rebuilt axles.

Did this fix the shake? I have a a shake that is worst at about 50pmh. It smooths a bit at 60 but never goes away. I have some shake on acceleration as well. I would like to save money VS oem but redoing work really eats into savings.

Off by millimeters.. I believe it! About 5 yrs ago, I bought a duralast upper control arm for my TL. And it would not fit in the 2 slots . It was too wide by a fraction. It really matters.
glad I found this post. I heard my left axle make that infamous clicking sound a few days ago. 125k miles. I have not heard it again but its telling me it's not feeling well...

Haven’t had my Raxles DS cv axle for a year and mine is making so much noise. It was good for a few months and then started to make a little noise and now it’s loud and I called up RAxles and didn’t really offer much help at all except to try and jack up the car and set it back down. Did that and didn’t really help out. So much for a warranty as I have to buy another one from them instead now for $299. Looking for any other alternatives. Curious to try Rockauto

Which supplier would you guys use away from OEM or is it too big a risk user non-OEM?

THe last time I changed Axles on a car was around 2005. I had a Camaro and I bought a 1989 Accord as a 2nd car while I was replacing the head gasket on my Camaro. And I bought Axles from O'rielly's Auto Parts. I did not have any issues at all.
I do not have any specific recommendations but it would be nice to have the OEM balancer on the axles. And as far as I know, there are No used or remanufactured axles that has those balancers. Either way, even if remanufacturered axles do not last as long as the OEM, then at least they are cheaper.. And axles that do not click is better than those that are worn out. So ieven if the Reman type do not last as long, at least they are cheaper. I would not sweat it too much AS LONG AS the remanufacturered axles do not give up in a short 2 or 3 years. I mean, you want them to last a little while even if they are not as long lasting as the OEM. Still, you you are really paying for the OEM ones these days.
Other people on here will probably have more info than me on the latest part quality. I have no idea which ones are best. Like a roll of the dice. Especially when purchasing online.
