Bad tear in drivers seat

I have no idea how this happened, but during cleaning today I noticed this really bad tear in the seat. Its very tight and rubbery, I dont think sewing is going to fix this. The replacement seat cover alone runs ~$500. I really do not want to go a route with a generic seat cover, but I might have to. Any suggestions? This really sucks.

Picked up some vinyl glue and tried to press it in. Looks like crap but better than nothing. Looks like this happened from rubbing of an elbow/bicep when shifting. After thinking about it, the best option probably will be to go with a seat cover after all. Can anyone reccomend an aftermarket seat cover?

Interesting. I have the same exact tear in my car. I also have a tear on the drivers side door armrest as well. The car is 9 yrs old...so how long should this hold up?

Did you do anything to treat the tear? I have a handful of quotes, ranging from $190 to $450 to fix it. Unfortunately I have a feeling it will not be an exact match up and there will be differences in the red stitching/texture of the vinyl. I'm going to hang on to the quotes but just leave the seat the way it is now. Once the glue tried it took out a lot of the bubbles. Still looks like crap but thats the way it goes :/

I haven't fixed it as of yet.

I was looking at company (link below). They are located nation-wide.

My dealership tore my driver's side seat in the exact same location as I was taking delivery of the car (while they were doing the final detail ) Since they were the ones who tore it I'm taking it in to them tomorrow and will see what they will do to fix it. I will update you on what they say/what they quote to repair it.

That is SO strange. About 1.5 years ago, when my Wagon got home from dealer service, it had the EXACT tear like yours. After raising hell with the dealer, they fixed it for me, and it looks brand new and perfect match to the other.

Good luck in your search. I have never seen anything like it, almost like someone took a knife and cut it.

Appreciate everyone sharing. Since the identical tear happened to more than one person, it might be a weak spot / design defect. I'll be on the lookout for this, but without knowing the cause, it will be tough to prevent.

I thought that this is from shifting/rubbing of your arm but it is actually from sticking your elbow in the wing of the seat when you get out of the car. Be careful, especially when others drive the vehicle (especially the ones you know are going to slam your door). I'm guessing it was that fat $#! at the car wash that did this. I do not get out of the car this way. No way I could prove it now. The vinyl adhesive is holding great, it doesn't bother me like it used to.
