Shopping for a 2004-2006 Acura TL 6-Speed
Hey gang,
I'm in the market for a low mileage 6-Speed TL, so far the nicest unit I've found is a 2006 with only 20,000 miles on the clock, unfortunately the asking price is $14,000. The Kelly Blue Book valuation for a private party resale is $10,700, however, the Edmunds TMV is $8,910 for the same spec car. I offered $9,500; I'm kind of guessing my offer will be rejected without any consideration. Any suggestions?
Best regards,
Horseshoez

I suggest you up your offer!
Or more realistically, find another car.. that's a rip off even though it's 'low mileage'

Find an example that's "low mileage" (50-60k miles) but not "super low miles" like the one on which you're bidding....
EDIT: For example... https://washingtondc.craigslist.org/nva/ctd/6083962004.html or https://fredericksburg.craigslist.org/cto/6086772379.html
or any of these: 13 Used Acura TLs for Sale

Thanks folks, I'm holding out for a 6-Speed manual model (I never learned how to drive an automatic transmission),
There was one 6-Speed on the Cars website linked above, but it was right bang on the same price I offered for the one I'm looking at. I'm going to hold out and see if he caves on the price, after all, the car has already been posted for fourteen days. If not I'll move on to something more reasonably priced; fortunately I'm in no hurry.

Agreed. I figure since I'm in my early 60s I have roughly 30-40 more years of driving in front of me, so I should start buying myself a small stable of cars with three pedals under the dash to guard against the day when said third pedal is deleted by the world's manufacturers. Current "wishlist" vehicles (in addition to the TL 6-Speed I'm shopping for) with manual gearboxes include a Miata of some sort (NA, NB, and ND are all candidates), a 1990s vintage Ford F-150 with the 300 CID Straight Six, and maybe an E36 M3.

Here's a nice-looking 1997 E36 M3 for sale in my region. And a 1993 F150 4x4 w/the 4.9L I6.

Hey horseshoez,
I was in a similar situation as you, although I wanted a Manual type-s. Around my area, they are a unicorn (clean type-s, MT) but they are indeed out there. I ended up with a 06 MT, which im still happy to find. Try your best to be patient and wait for one in good condition. I found mine after only 2 months of waiting and searching. Lowest miles I've seen for a 6MT TL around my area so I hopped on it. They will defnitely pop up sooner or later if you can wait

Pretty high mileage (93k miles), but a 1-owner car and priced accordingly at $7k. Very detailed Carfax report, showing timing belt/water pump work done in Dec. 2011 (at < 60k miles) and engine mounts replaced at 76k miles.
Only problem is that it's a 2004, which was notorious for having transmission issues in the first year of production.

I pulled the trigger today on a Royal Blue Pearl 2006 Acura TL 6-Speed with 114,000 on the clock; I paid a little more than I wanted, but after kissing so damn many toads I finally found one with a pretty face. I'll be picking the car up this coming Friday or Saturday and then putting my current DD (a 2001 Accord EX V6) up on the auction block.

One thing I really like about your car are the wheels, which I understand were the factory wheels for the non-Type-S cars from the 2007 and 2008 model year. I may well buy a set of them and use them for my summer set and keep the current set for winter rubber.

Funny thing, I've had two sedans in the past with in a very similar color....

Anyway, I love the OEM-style wheels for the 2007-08 TL's. The ones on the car when I bought it had a lot of curb rash and two were out-of-round, causing a bad vibration at highway speeds. I looked into getting some OEM replacements, but they cost about $250 each. Ultimately, I ended up purchasing some "replicas" for about $110 per wheel. Some folks worry about the durability of the "reps," esp. in dealing with potholes (which makes sense given the lower profile of our 235/45R17 tires). But they are (supposedly) manufactured to OEM-specs, and I've been very pleased with them and had no problems thus far (about 2 months, fingers crossed).
Just for your reference, click here for the discussion thread on my search for new wheels.

I brought the car home yesterday (wonderful drive, even in the rain); here's the short list of to-do items:
- ACDelco Synchromesh Friction Modified (on order)
- New wiper blades (on order)
- New left outside rear view mirror; oxidation under the glass (on order)
- USA*SPEC BT45-HON3 Bluetooth Music kit
- New tires within five to seven months (probably closer to five)
- New Axles (pretty sure on this one, won't know for certain until after the new rubber goes on)

Ahhh, sorry. It has rained non-stop since I picked the car up and I live on a horse farm, so we have some, ummm, how you say, ummm, MUD. Yeah, that's it.
It looks like things will start drying out later today and by mid-week it should be safe to wash the TL and get some pictures.

No bubble to burst, I don't care either way; that said, on the VIN Decoder page on this site the indicates the only blue color option for my car is "Royal Blue Pearl".
