LED Daytime Running Lights (DRL) Install Write-Up

Background Information:
This was performed on my 2007 Acura TL Type-S. When I went to purchase my LED's for my Daytime Running Lights (DRL), no where did I find that I needed a harness, because our DRLs are not 12v. Anyways, after some brief research after purchasing the LEDs and attempting to put them in, I found the iJDM harness (links will be provided). This harness was great, however the way it was set up made it so you would need to put the relay in the center core support area (on top of the fan shroud as I've seen with BIG 3 upgrades, and this harness as well). Personally, i'm not a fan of the placement, and wanted to make something a bit sleeker. This is what I came up with.

This is the diagram for the harness:

After laying this in my car, my father realized that we could take the red wire (2nd from the left) that goes to decoder 1 and sleeve it into the 2nd wire on the right. This would mean we could flip the harness over so that the relay would be on the driver's side with the positive, ground, decoder 2, and driver's side LED. Then, just running the passenger's side led wire (with the red wire mentioned above slipped into the sleeve to attach to the decoder), and of course the decoder.

Hilariously enough, from the diagram it says the red wire needs to be in the ground of the decoder, however, it's positively activated. Also, the plugs for the decoders have a indicator on which way they should go, however from the pictures above, and the diagram, you can see it should be positive to positive, and negative to negative. Which you have to put the plug in the opposite way (no big deal, just kind of funny).

This is what the wire harness looks like on the floor after soldering, and re-routing the red wire to decoder:

After adding the heat shrink over the soldered connections, we can begin the better version of the install! (zip-ties were left un-cut so you can see the location)

These next few pictures are of me running the harness behind the radiator, and using zip-ties to secure it to the harness that is there from the factory (so you can't see the wires).

After securing the wires to prevent rubbing, rattling, or damage with some zip-ties, I added 3m tape to the back of them to secure them just under the lip of the headlight portion of the core support. Make sure to wipe down the area with some alcohol wipes or something similar prior to sticking them on.

As you can see, it's stuck to the bottom, and i wrapped the wires around the AC line just to make sure they don't come loose, rattle, or damage anything. I had to take off the relay pack seen in the below picture to route the cables behind them, then just simply put it back into place.

This is what it looks like with the radiator supports back on the top, can hardly tell!

Ran the ground to the same ground the battery uses:

Because i'm going to be installing a stereo shortly, i didn't want to directly hook up the power wire to the battery, instead, we ran it to the fuse box and wrapped it in some black split-loom to not stand out as seen:

Picture of where the relay ended up, and zip-tied it to the harness there:

Picture of securing the coder, and other harness wires to another harness. You can also slightly see the decoder 3m taped up in the same spot as the passenger side (the orange colored strip):

Picture of just the front core support shroud back on:

Picture of all the bay plastics put back into place:

Picture(s) of them working!

What was suppose to be a simply "buy some LEDs and put them in" turned into this, but in the process my dad figured out a much better way to install the, so I figured i'd share it with you guys! Hopefully it helped.

heat shrink and solder (or butt-connectors)
patiences

Another quick note, when testing to make sure these work, insure your light switch is in the OFF position, and E-Brake is down, and turn the key ON, this will turn the DRLs on (assuming it's day-time of course, lol)

Nice Job and Idea! I don't have DRL's, but good modification for that harness!

You likely saw my review there. I might try buying this again but mine I triple checked with a tech on the phone and all they offered was a return. They refused to exchange for another harness and bulb combo used with their bulbs. Glad it worked for someone. Yes I have an 07 as well.

I take it the iJDM harness didn't work for you?

Nice writeup!

The iJDMToy harness works. It's VERY simple harness that you can even build yourself.

However the problem that I had when I installed it a few years ago (and I'm disappointed they still have not fixed everything) was that their negative was positive and vice versa so instead of rewiring it like you did, I shaved off the tab on their male bulb connector and plugged it in to the car female bulb connector. The relay is hidden and zip tied near the battery.

I highly recommend you replace the relay on the harness. iJDMToy uses a very cheap one that rusts out and corrodes the inside within a year - causes flickering problems, sometimes works, sometimes doesn't.
Along with a new relay, I went the extra step to electric tape the whole relay and connectors to avoid this problem.

I've been running their harness for 3 years now - no problems since install.

Because it was never designed for LED bulbs? This is absolutely not unique to the TL....many cars have issues/challenges when LED bulbs are thrown into the mix. Some are physical issues (glare, poor aim, etc) while some are electrical.
