2013 Subaru BRZ Kimchi Edition
Also, I loled at the picture of all of you in the snow looking like you're freezing your ass off. It was probably 40+ outside at that point in time.

Congrats on the newborn!
You know.. even if you only drive 4-5k miles a year, being in LA, you have to have a car.
So you either buy something cheap that will get you to places, which we all know you are not going to do.. or lease something that has the write off benefits that offers the practicality for your new born when needed.
RDX Elite
If i were in your situation, I probably find a car from swap lease (lower monthly payment and significant cheaper than leasing new) to find a car to lease for about 1 year or so and see what happens after that. Usually the ones that have driven too many miles that do not have enough miles will offer very good incentives, which fits your situation perfectly.
Something like this: 2015 BMW X5 lease in Eastvale, CA

Yeah I definitely want a car. It's going to be driven only for canyon/track pretty much. So you are right either a cheap fun used car like Miata or lease.
Used: Miata/S2K
Lease: ND/Mustang GT/BMW 240/STi/BRZ
Those are my choices at the moment. The new leases have to be fun and trackable with minimal mods and be very good for my SWEIDIT business.
That swapalease is super interesting. Can't stop looking through it. I'll check it out everyday. Found some 235i 6MT for 400 range with 20 months left. Those are super attractive.
You guys have no idea how much I want a Miata. I love ND and NB. Driven them for an extensive period of time last month. Topdown driving is just amazing in socal.
You know I want it. My buddy just scored a stock ap1 with 100k miles for $10k. It was actually from San Diego. haha
I will only purchase if it's something close to that.
S3 doesn't come with a stick.

Otherwise, I would love me some nardo grey S3.... I'm in love with that color.
Hey hey it was like 40s, we were dying. Winter is Coming type of weather for us hahahaha
I don't think you will go wrong with any cars you have in mind ...
Who knows, maybe once you get the Avant tuned you'll want more and the boost bug gets ya.
*Cough* Upgraded turbo *Cough* Upgraded Intercooler* Cough cough* Upgraded fueling* cough*

Little something for my A4 Avant today.
So here's the first taste of https://www.facebook.com/DeliciousTuning/'s work on their first Audi tuning. I've known Delicious Tuning from my FRS/BRZ community since they are one of the best in the country for that platform. Their Flex Fuel kit is pretty much the best in the business.
My car is a bone stock 2010 A4 Avant Quattro. We bought this car brand new back in 2010, the car has been through a lot, it's at 80k miles right now. My wife and I have taken this car literally everywhere. The car being station wagon allowed us to haul some crazy load of stuff through the ownership. We have slept in the hatch area with our three dogs in Mammoth camp site when the weather got too crazy. It's just been through so much, it's a tank. We love the car.
https://www.facebook.com/zach.tucker.564 @ Delicious Tuning and Bill the owner graciously offered to work their magic on this engine. First Audi(VW) engine to be worked for them. Everything was done in one day only. The staff at Delicious Tuning was extremely nice from start to finish by the way. Super awesome customer service. I asked some dumb questions and answered without calling me dumb. That doesn't mean that you guys should call and ask dumb questions. Please don't. lol
Anyway, I got the call that my car was done today, so went to their office to pick up the car. Zach showed me the dyno graph and explained everything. We went around the block to test drive the car. The car felt so much smoother from the get go. As it's shown in the dyno sheet, the gain on the top end was fairly substantial. The stock engine is rated at 211hp and 258tq, so it's not a fast car. And this car weighs around 3800lb, it's fatty. This first stage of tuning definitely made the car more lively on boost. The car certainly wants to move. Can't wait to add a downpipe and retune for more soon.

My car is 100% back to stock, ready to sell. Currently getting quotes for various cars that I want right now.
Looking at WRX/STi/GTi/Golf R.
My intent is to lease a car under my business for the tax purposes. And I only drive my car 5k miles a year, it's all just fun miles since I work at home.
We always drive my Avant everywhere with my wife and baby, so our Avant gets stacked miles. It's at about 80k miles at the moment.
So I'm thinking of leasing a car that is big enough to have a car seat in the back which I can drive it everyday with my family. But the car has to be fun for me to take it up the canyon and do 3-4 track days a year. So that's how I got to those choices at the moment.
The current quote I got from the dealers is this:
all 0 down/36 months/12k miles/taxes and everything included price
WRX base $320
STi base $480
GTi Autobanh $450
Golf R $580
The Golfs look ridiculously pricey, I would never go for those. The 2017 WRX is on fire sale this month. It's super cheap, so I'm leaning toward that. The inside is pretty roomy, I checked.
We will see how it goes!
Oh and I'll be on the hunt for a nice NB Miata or AP1 S2K.

Rumor has it that the 2018 WRX models will come with more and better features like carplay and android auto. If that matters to you then I'd wait and see what pops up later. $320 for a base WRX is pretty good though.
I think the base WRX is where you will get most bang for your buck.... Unlike the previous Gen, WRX does not look so waterdowned anymore compare to the STi.
As far as the #... i think you have a little more room for the WRX. My friend leased his 1 year ago with $1000 drive off, $300/month... which is almost identical # as yours with 0 drive off $320 a month. But that was 1 year ago....
$300/month... you can do it

End of an era. Your thread is partially what influenced me into getting a BRZ
I love the WRX too, whenever people ask me about my BRZ I recommend the WRX to most of them instead. The torque and actual backseat are nice. AWD is just a bonus.

The 6mt it has really surprised me when i drove it. I always thought Honda's 6mt was easiest to drive. The new WRX's is right up there.
Unless he wants to get the CVT....then he better get his flame suit ready.

Yes!!
I want to get a used FRS in the future for the track toy under $10k.
Yas!
Yeah, I drove it a couple of times and did a ride along in my friends WRX at Buttonwillow. The car is a very practical and can be tracked good with an oil cooler.
Yeah! I'm trying to get it down to 300 for the base or 340 for the premium and see which one I like better. The premium comes with ass warmer... and I like ass warmer. haha
Not sure. It's just super cheap hahaha If I can get the premium for 350, maybe go for that one. Only thing I want fro Premium is the ass warmer. Other things are just meh.
Are you kidding me? Only 6MT.
.
Ass warmer in LA?
It seems the Premium comes with different suspension components from the Base...not that it matters since you probably gonna get coils anyways.
