You have a friend that's a Honda/Acura master tech? And they live 3 hours away?

Why don't you just drive over and have them do the work?

You could watch.

I'm kind of chapped. I bought an 07/08 DVD drive to put in my 06 TL. I did that because Acura stopped making update discs in 2014 for the 04/06 TLs. Since my drive failed for a second time, I figured I would buy the 07/08 drive so that I can keep updating the maps. No, I don't use it often, but I wanted to keep the car oem and have the maps in the odd instance I do need them. Yes, I know there are much better systems out there. But I like oem.

Well, it seems absolutely everything goes through the DVD drive. Even changing the stereo equalizer goes through the drive. And oddly enough, it now shows my center channel and subwoofer as unadjustable. They play. But I can't adjust the sound to them. They're greyed out on the screen. I now have to buy an 07/08 screen, because apparently the resolution between the 04/06 screen and 07/08 screen changed. And the touch points on the screen don't match up. No biggie. the joystick works fine. But I'll likely switch the screens out too. And then I'm thinking I might as well swap the actual stereo itself (the CD/tape deck thingy).

But looking at the parts site, the base 04/06 and base 07/08 TLs use different wiring harnesses all the way through. So there might be no point to change them out, because I still may not gain full usage. I reaaaaaaaaaaally don't want to start replacing wire harnesses.

So I'm left with three options:
1. put a nexus 7 tablet in. bleh. I really don't like this option and the installation looks brutal.
2. repair the 04/06 drive I have, but never be able to update the maps again (I already have the 2014 disc)
3. install the 07/08 drive/screen/stereo and see what happens. Expensive to do this. I already have the drive.

None of these are ideal

Yes. Hence why the touch points on my 06 screen don't correspond with where they should be, with the 07/08 drive. Like, lets say I want to push one of the radio station preset buttons, I have to touch the screen 5-10mm lower in order to hit it.

Though to get around that, the joystick works just fine.

I had my reservations on whether or not they were cross compatible but didn't say anything.. i'm a horrible person.

Isn't there a screen calibration? https://www.google.com/search?q=site...hrome&ie=UTF-8

I'm actually quite surprised that the wiring harness has any difference.

Well most everything works. Not being able to adjust the sub/center speaker isn't the end of the world. I mean, they still play. Better than looking at completely outdated maps. Who knows, I might turn this into a project and replace the entire wireharness inside the car. I don't want to, but if I end up getting bored...

Then I can add a back up camera too

Guitarplayer16 told me about the touch screen issue and not the touch points not lining up. I knew that in advance. I initially thought he meant that I can't see the entire screen and had to scroll sideways with the joystick.

i think it's very minor shit, like the addition of the backup cam wires, or the XM antenna connection, or the re configuration of a few of the buttons on the dash... When switching between modes (am/fm, tape, cd, etc). They added an aux button on the dash, which on my TL can only be selected from the steering wheel.
