I've driven both. 340i is a better driving machine, even if it is a little lower performing. Infiniti leaves a lot to be desired in the looks/interior, IMHO.

Less performance? I've driven both. The Red Sport is a helluva bargain for what you get but since we're talking performance only, the 340i is the driver's car IMHO of course. Now, if you're talking options, I'd gladly pay the extra 5k you noted for a more engaging driving experience with all the same options, seems like a no-brainer.

I guess if you're using the BMW just to go to the track, but 99.9% of the time you're not going to be flooring it around corners so you won't even notice the better driving experience that is always talked about with BMW.

Okay, this really isn't a good argument in this situation. If that's the argument, we should all be driving accords.

There is alot more wrong with the RLX than just styling. Poor marketing, unacceptable quality control and build issues, worst suspension ever designed by Honda/Acura (or any car manf for that matter), lack of luxury/premium features compared to it's competitors (eg, rear A/C & infotainment controls, adjustable suspension system, modern NAV/infotainment system, interior ambient lighting options), and an MSRP priced too high.

It took them 2-years to finally fix the issues above and get the vehicle to actually match the MSRP price. But by that point you're dead in the water. Especially when it's supposed to be your flagship, the pinnacle representation of your brand.

Hey, you brought the "performance" subject up. The 320 rated horsepower 340 will beat an Infiniti Red version 400 rated horsepower car & a 355 rated horsepower 340 will burry it..

BTW BMW cheats & typically under rates its engines.

For all the guys looking up stats like HP & weight for different cars should be aware in the real world the generally have no meaning. Advertised HP is a marketing number & weight is generally the stripped base weight of the series. Dyno runs & track or public scales are the only way to find out what you car weights & how much power it really has.

For those not really interested there are a lot of nice cars out there like the Accord recommendation above as a pretty good all round car with a lot of creature comforts..

As for your "flooring it around corners"

1 You have no clue as to what we are talking about

2 You also have no idea how to drive around a corner. Big clue it does not include flooring the pedal.

Everything you said except this sentence is true. Slam the gas pedal while in a corner in the SH-AWD TLX and you get an unsuspected reward.

I always wondered why Acura released the 600HP TLX GT race car along with the production street car. Even though it's the same block, heads, and sh-awd systems everything else is different. Perhaps they were testing what this setup is capable of. It would be definitely be detuned but I would imagine it'd be around 400hp or so. I can't imagine the 2.0T is ready for prime time yet since it's barely out in Civic Type R form.

3.5T or 3.0L sport hybrid is my guess if they announce a new powertrain.

He was talking about cars that actually have some power. Interesting note the TLX race car does not use the SHAWD .differential & they don't slam the throttle around a turn.

LOL you're the one who has no idea what he's talking about. A RS will not get Buried by either 340. The RS was dyno'd and is also very underate considering it puts out 370 hp and 350 torque to the wheels. So no. Also my flooring around corners is not literal. Again most people are not doing hard driving most of the time.

Real life 340i

PA in FEB on a cold track,

Car # 16 Best time was 12.807 @ 108 mph. Best trap speed of the day was 110.74 MPH at 13.030 seconds. A good 60' time is critical & his 60ft times were not that good. Would be looking for 1.8 with that car.
BTW the MPPK package which this car does not have increases HP to about 355 up 35 over base. My MPPK on the old N55 engine is less powerful @ 342.

Would be interesting to try a RS to see what happens.

IIRC C&D got 13.0 A 110 or 112mph with the RS.

^Time frame should be around september, based on how the last 3 years' models were released. Maybe a month delay since its mmc? But at least show the production car so we can start criticising it. Lol

If it follows the same footsteps as the '17 MDX, which I think it will, mid-April at the NYIAS will be the unveiling and sales will start in June. If it gets a sport hybrid variant, I'd hope it wouldn't take as long as the MDX sport hybrid to be released! The sport hybrid MDX STILL has not hit the market, might as well sell it as an '18 by the time they go on sale lol.

I will have my eyes peeled at the Dallas auto show next month (even though I don't foresee any major TLX announcement coming from Dallas). Judging from the awful feedback that the TLX spy photos have gotten across several sites, I wouldn't be surprised if something got tweaked before the official announcement. Doubtful, but wouldn't be surprised.

I HIGHLY doubt they are going to do anything to it at this point. In the spy pics they can be seen with a camera thing which looks like they are making a promotional marketing reel. They aren't going to change anything at this point especially since they already took the time to take those shots.

In Canada we can now longer order any 2017 TLX. Expect to see the 2018 TLX soon. Also don't get your hopes up on any significant powertrain updates. I am just hoping they were able to address the 9 speed in the TLX.

Dear Honda,
Please go slap some sense in the Acura department. Maybe then we'll all know "IT'S THAT KIND OF THRILL"

Would you happen to know if this is the same case for the American Honda? I'm debating buying a 2017 now, but don't want to wait until inventory dwindles either.

Can't say for certain but very likely US TLX production is done. Why would you not wait for the 2018 TLX as it is bound to be better?

My local dealer has 53 new 2017 TLX's listed on their site.

Because the 2018 is just plain ugly. Looks just like a Hyundai SUV from the front Do not like that new grill. Since there is no difference in the power train I'll buy a 2017

Then hold out as long as you can and monitor your dealership's inventory and get the best price on a '16?

Ok I'm really starting to believe that the 2018 TLX will have a new engine or performance model. If it was a little cosmetic they would of just left the TLX GT model which adds a little flare to the model. Happy hoping

Couldn't say it better myself. 2018 is not looking very promising and if I can pick up a 2017 for a good price, then why not? Especially if its the same motors.

I should have quoted the previous post. I am done getting excited for potential performance models with increased specs.

I obviously still care about Acura because I'm here.

I guess they wanted to compete i the GT class, but then the NSX got delayed so they didn't have a car ready. That means the TLX had to fill in. Obviously, a stock TLX would not come close to the machines in the GT class with cars like the 458, SLS, 911, etc, so ya, heavy modifications would be needed.

The K20C has been around for a couple years now. I think it's ready for other applications if Honda wants to do so.

If the 2018 is just plain ugly (Which I agree it is) what does that make the 2017? (hideous, grotesque, abominable, gruesome, revolting, odious, ghastly, repulsive...)

The 2018 looks much more aggressive, while the 2017 is more conservative and calm, so I'm going to go with none of those adjectives you stated above- I'll say pretty.

I'm holding out hope that the TLX looks better than these (bad) pictures. Not writing off Acura until we get a full redesign of one of their sedan models.

I can't understand the hatred for 2018 TLX. There aren't any HD pics. Everything is blurry. I love the look of the new MDX so I'm on board with their new design language.

So the 400HP RS runs with the 320HP 340i. I know one stock 340 is down into the 12.671 @ Drag Times but did not have a quick time slip reference. That said IIRC Edmonds tested one at 12.7 so I expect the numbers are valid.

Maybe the Japanese horses are under fed or just have short legs since the 340 is spotting them 80 advertised HP & still winning. Be interesting to see how the RS 400HP does against the 355HP 340i MPPK/MPE.

Weight is a factor here. I believe the RWD RS weight 300 pounds more and the AWD is 500 more pounds than the 340.
