Remove tail lights ILX 2016?
I want to paint my tail lights. I tried to remove the trunk tail light portions which have reverse lights, but couldn't do it. I removed some bolts but it's still attached somehow. Any tips?

I am sorry for the delay on a response, I have not checked the forums in a bit. I have a 2013 ILX however the rear lights fit essentially the same way - It is probable that your issue is just clips, try pulling straight out and the tail light should come out.

What color do you plan to paint the tail lights? I've found that most paint ends up looking dull and matte color after a while.
Have you considered a Lamin-x Film? I was tired of the Red/Clear look of my taillights and went with a All Red Laminx Film. It's a nice glossy film. Looks factory OEM once installed. Best part is, I didn't have to remove the taillights to apply the film.
I think it turned out pretty good.

This might be a stupid question but, is your rear turn signal light now red? Or is it like a pinkish color cause of amber light and the red tint.
So, if I do this, would I need to change the amber bulb to achieve a red turn signal.

Good question, I was worried about this myself. I thought I would have to change out the bulbs to Red Bulbs. But in fact, the Red Film is so thick it makes the Turn signal completely Red as well. No amber/pink tint whats so ever.
It doesn't sound like a simple film would be strong enough to turn a yellow light completely red, but it is. No bulb changes needed
I'll see if I can take a picture with the signals on.

I ended up painting the 2016 tail lights without removing the trunk portions. 4 coats of red night shade, wet sand, 4 coats of clear, wet sand, buff, polish.
the result is amazing.
I changed the signal bulbs to red LED 7443 dual filaments. Tap 3rd wire to running light.
And the video

That red does look good!! Youre car looks great and the emblems are 👌🏼! I might steal that look! I was on the fence because I don't like how tinting can have that dull finish. And the smoke look that I want, I can't really get. Here's a photoshop rendition of how I would want it:
But it the way you did your is legit! Also you get extra kudos for doing it yourself. I'm not that skilled nor do I have a garage.

After seeing how bad it looks smoked tinting over clear lense. My plan was red out then smoke all with night shade. Right now I enjoy the red out tail light, when summer comes, ill put on some smoked night shade.
