2016 - Bumper Garnish Mesh

Has anyone here modded their bumper garnishes to replace the horrible "chicken-wire" mesh with a more modern "honeycomb" mesh? It's nice to see Acura switching over to this style with the new 2017 RDX, and would love to mod the the front/rear garnishes on my 2016 ILX A-spec.

My guess is using proper cutting tools, I can make a precise cut to remove the existing mesh and cut out the exact fitting size from a sheet of ABS honeycomb mesh and use proper adhesive to permanently re-attach it to the outer garnish mold. Looks like a good number of places online (Ebay, Amazon) to find large sheets of the honeycomb meshes in various cell sizes. I'm thinking the 2.5cm x 1.4cm cell size would look just right...?

I know it's a small detail, but good design is all about the small details.

I was thinking of doing the same thing. I also want to do center bumper opening to stop road debris from hitting radiator fins. I was thinking of using these gutter screens. I've usd them on my house. There black powder coated metal and would be perfect. Just dont know how difficult it would be to replace.

Datz zee plan!

I went ahead and ordered the mesh. I'm going to also buy a spare garnish off AcuraOEMparts.com so I can give it a trial run first before tearing down the ones off fhe car.

Any suggestions on a good strong adhesive compound that wont discolor or dissovle the ABS plastic?

Will post more info as I make progress.

Mesh came in the mail yesterday. Solid high-quality ABS as you'd expect. Won't have time for a couple more weeks to work on this, but will post updates once I do.

How wide/ long this that piece you have? Is that the OEM bit or something similar?
I would LOVE to replace the center section of my TLS bumper (which is a solid bit) with that material!

I don't know if metal would be a good idea. Acura Watch sensors may not like it.
