19x8.5 or 19x9? post your pics
short time reader first time poet. previous wrb wrx owner first time acura owner. hoping you folks will post your thoughts and post your pics on 19x8.5 and 19x9's for the ilx as I hope to soon be an owner of a set of vossen vfs2's. questions in mind seeking answers: tires options (most rubber without rub); spacer options: are they even needed with wheel size?; whos dropped? how much?

Tires sit almost flush with fender. Maybe a few MM of "Poke Out" The rear tires slightly rub on hard corners and steep driveways. I'm sure a mild drop will cause slight bit of camber and tires will tuck in perfectly with no rubbing.

I'm surprised it rubs at stock height... But it would probably rub about the same amount with a spring drop 1 to 1.5 inches.... maybe not with a dialed in coil-over drop... The reason being that you have somewhat of a high offset... OP if you are going for 19x9, You are gonna want a much lower offset. like probably at LEAST +20, or maybe more like +15... if you had the same wheels as the pictured car, but in 19x9 you would have to get +25 (more or less) for it just to sit the same. So no rubbing means +20. Rough educated guess, YMMV.
I have test fit 19x9 3 piece wheels on the car before, looked amazing. I have a 1,5 inch spring drop... The offset was something +15 or +20, it was a while ago, don't remember... actually... it MAY have even been +10 or a weird size close to that... Every wheel will be different and they may come in slightly weird offsets too like +17 or +23 or something

Based on the specs of your 3 piece wheels, and having a slight drop, the wheels were more than likely poking out from the fender by 5-10 mm after the adjusted static camber.
Check using the link below and scroll to the bottom. Fender clearance is same for 9" +36 vs. 8.5" +30:

Lowering your car will not prevent rubbing. The control arm articulates the same way regardless of static height. It only has one arc of movement and so regardless of starting position, it will have the same end position. The only way to actually change the camber arc is with an adjustable control arm.
You have it backwards. Lower the offset, the more poke you get. In order to sit the same in regards to being flush with the fender lip, he would need a 19x9"+36 offset, which would end up flush with 19x8.5" +30 [19x8.5 +30 = 78mm poke w/ 138mm inset, 19x9 +36 = 78mm poke w/ 150mm inset]. In order to tuck more and prevent rubbing, he would need an offset higher than +36 as it will be sunken in more.
Based on the specs of your 3 piece wheels, and having a slight drop, the wheels were more than likely poking out from the fender by 5-10 mm after the adjusted static camber.

I was always under the impression proper dialed in dropping would help with preventing Bacon Fender type issues... and would help with rubbing, although I guess I can see how that doesn't really make sense when you are actually creating less clearance and travel space between the wheel and the fender well/fender......
But wouldn't the drop make the wheels angle in towards the car , creating naturak camber and other fore better clearance? Wouldn't the fenfer well rub less against a wheel that is slightly slanted like this \\\\\\ ) or like this(///////....versus the wheel being straight up and down..?

i realized after that I didnt clearly explain myself, I was talking about 3 piece type wheels with lips... The black ILX in the pics in this thread has wheels that are "flat face"? I don't know the actual term... But they are not 3 piece wheels with lips... the wheels I test fitted had about a 3 inch lip. They fit EXACTLY flush, no poke. it was awesome... Deal fell through due to seller being kind of a douche about pricing and kind of trying to bait and switch on me...And actually I saw some cheaply priced 3 piece Work wheels that were 18x9 +38, which I'm pretty sure would fit flush as well... BUT not much of a lip.

OP - do you just want style or performance or what? For style, bigger is better and this car does look sexy with some 19's ... the "safer" size at 19's is 19x8.5 because you can get a decent tire size that will protect the wheel pretty well.. but you are still risking more wheel damage then an 18 regardless.. I had a near blowout even with one of my 17's... I'm leaning more towards an 18x9... Any info that I could find said that anything wider then that isn't really adding performance, most likely taking away... on fact 18x9 may evenbe slightly too wide for optimum performance too...same for wider then 8.5 at 19 inch wheel... the proper "ratio" has to be maintained to improve/maintain peformance

not saying you can't go bigger, obviously there are ways to make it fit. But you are trading grip, braking distance, hydroplaning resistance, amd some overall performance and MPG for looks. Depends on you tho.
I'd love the look, but I want both performance and looks.
