I'll post pics when it's done... just doing some finishing work.
The wall is done, but I have to trim some of the stone work on the sides of the fire place mantle I built a few years ago... need to replace electrical covers, do some caulking and minor paint touch ups.
ah, whatever, here are some crappy pics from the other day:
Please note the horrendous wall color that I am attempting to cover up. It seemed like a good idea at the time... but we hated it. and it only took 26 months before I did something about it. Maybe I need J to move in with me...
The horrendous color we are covering up. Seemed like a good idea... Pics don't do the wall justice.. the texture of the flooring looks real and you cant see the laminate joints due to the color of the lines.. they blend in with the rest yeah it's messy.. still lots to do. We are redoing the entire room
I was wondering the same thing... But those panels looked horrendously fake back in the day. Even in 1990, as a kid, I was like "ugh..."
Honestly, if it looks bad in a few years, I'll just redo it. It actually won't be all that bad to take it all off, patch some holes from the brad nails and repaint.
and I'm not doing the entire house. Just the feature wall in the bedroom.
Ahh okay.... St first I was thinking old wood paneling a la the 80's too but a nice feature wall like that doesn't look too bad . It would look better with some reclaimed wood with tons of contrast, laminate looks too perfect IMO.
I think it looks cool...
I'd like to do it but I'd do 2 by structure then buy a pallet or 3 of reclaimed wood!
And
I LOVE the color on the walls!
Bro, we were even disgusting the miter saw and you didn't mention such a cool project!!!?
I love my miter... when we were talking about them, I hadn't even started this. Nor was it even on the radar. It only came up on Friday.
We have accents in our room that are that color, but it seemed way too much for the wall. It was over powering and looked almost juvenile in the room. And yet, oddly, I do like the color. I dunno.. hard to explain.
The pallets/reclaimed wood would look AWESOME. I considered going that route, but this was so much easier. My brother and I found this old abandoned farm with this super old barn there... looked completely unsafe to enter... but we stripped a bunch of wood off the exterior. I walked away with two wooden window frames and we will incorporate them into the room. My brother walked away with 2 barn doors, window frames and some other stuff... I just didn't have anymore room to hang stuff.

Glad it's an accent wall
The brad nailer I was using was putting holes into the boards and I would line them up with the "knots" in the laminate, or whatever else, so it does have a bit of the reclaimed look to it. The laminate itself has a "wood like" texture to it, and as you can see, some of the boards are much darker than others.. while you're right, it doesn't look totally rustic, it came out very nice.. the pics just don't do it any justice.

I wish...
I was alluding to Adam's reclaimed wood find being during the LA County Rodney King riots of 1991...
then I thought, hmmm was it 1991? So I googled it and saw that he actually died in 2012 (RK III) of a drug overdose and drowning...
