Quick Tips for a New Member!

Good Morning Guys, i have owned a 2005 Acura TL for almost 3-yrs and i realized that i wanted to stay within the Acura family so i decided to do an upgrade. I recently purchased (Sept. 22nd) a pre-owned 2012 Acura TL w/ Tech Package with 48k miles from John Eagle Acura and i am enjoying it! i love how it drives, how it saves gas (compared to my 05 TL) and how luxurious it looks. I have a couple of things that i would like to do with my car in order to get it fitted just for me =).

I still consider myself kinda new with these cars so any tips are greatly appreciated. My previous car had a serious Power Steering Leak and a lifter issue so now i want to make sure i take well care of this newer version and wanted to know what you guys can recommend. I need tips on basic things like, Premium Gas vs Regular Gas, best windshield sunshade to use that won't tear up in a couple of months and what i can do to conserve the leather seat to reassure they don't start cracking. I live in the houston area so temperatures hit 90+ throughout the summer and leather seats reallllllly love that apparently.

any tips on what i mentioned or other things i should do would be greatly appreciated! i can upload a picture if needed =).

Did you really ask premium vs regular gas question?

Seats? get tint, incl Air 80 on the windshield, get covercraft sun shade from amazon.

get it serviced when it says to get it serviced. have a look at clymberdudes thread where he hit 500k just by following regular service....

OoOo another Houston member

and read the fackin manual.
it will tell you basic things like what kind of fuel to use....

and John Eagle sells windshield covers that fit your exact car.
and yes, get tint like any other Houstonian/Texan does.....

Thanks for the quick responses no matter how they were answered lol. The car already came with tinted windows so i really don't have to worry about that. I was asked my Acura dealer about the windshield sunshades but they didn't have them in stock for at least 2 weeks. I have read the manual where it clearly states "Recommended" not "Required". I have tested the regular gas on my older TL without any problems and then the premium and saw not positive or negative effects, AAA also released an article saying Premium gas doesn't provide any benefits and is not required gas only recommended so i was looking to see what opinions you guys had. Either way i'm still running the Premium gas and please...who the hell reads the whole god dam manual? lol i've read most of it but not all so obviously i wanna ask you guys for things i have missed =)

lol what about the navigation system? i don't think it has the latest 2016 update on it so i think it needs an update.i I called Acura to order the disc but they said they are not selling it because a new 2017 disc is coming out within this or next week. Do you guys think its worth upgrading it?

They are pretty strict here with using your phone while driving to the point where 1 ticket would cost more than 1 month payment of my car so i was thinking of upgrading the Navigation since the streets and Beltway 8 have been recently changed. And becuase it would tell me to take the long way home instead of the regular shorter way. Also i can't seem to find the traffic feature, or its just not activated.

You don't have a smartphone? Waze or google maps + a phone mount and don't touch it =

don't bother with the NAV.

OP, i dont think that (using while driving) applies to navigation on phone while mounted to a dedicated windshield mount. Now fapping while driving is an issue like that guy in detroit.

yeah you need to pay for the traffic feature....
pretty much NOT worth upgrading.....

i mean it's your money and you can do whatever you want, but the stock nav sucks

I have an iPhone 6s Plus and i'm really not interested in attaching any sticky mount on my dashboard since it wiggles and makes a lot of noise..i had it on my previous TL.

I actually had a Nexus 7 mounted by using the CD Slow on my previous no-navi 2005 TL and loved how i was able to use the AutoMate app which is almost exactly the same as Android Auto but i don't know if i wanna do the same with my newer car specially because the dash is different (more curved than flat)

buy a better mount

a air vent mount or a CD slot mount would work too

or pay the hundred dollars a year for a sub-optimal NAV.

Wait, what? Is there a "no phone while driving" law in TX/H-Town? I didn't think there was, you know, because of all the "keep gubment outta my business" sentiment here...

Regardless, Welcome ChiT! post a pic of your car.

You can check out the Houston region thread to stay up with local events. Not much happens right now because of that one guy that did that thing and then everyone is afraid of the stuff and doesn't want to make that be it again. But check in here and you can start working on your merit badges:

Here is a picture of my new TL, sorry if its too large lol

Cops are pretty strict on people using their phones while driving and since i look a bit young i catch way more attention.

yup they usually don't try to make it obvious, if you see a Silver TL with a Charmander on the rear view mirror passing you by going 80mph that's probably me lol

I did notice something a bit weird, yesterday when i turned on my car i realized that the Live Traffic and Weather features are working and are displaying on my Navigation system when they usually didn't when i bought the car. Is this feature free or do you have to pay for it?

quick question, the rear view camera...does it only have 1 single view or does it have multi-views like from top or wider view?

My previous 05 TL has XM Radio for like 2yrs without me paying for it, i believe i'm getting a 3-month trail..don't really like it. So far my newer 2012 TL is doing really well, I'm getting around 18-21mpg on streets and even higher on the freeway of course if i'm not stepping on the gas hard. I did end up pulling the fuse for the DRL lights because i just don't like them being on during the day at all times.

yeah, when I bought my 2006 TL in 2010, the previous owner must have had paid for like 5 years of XM, cuz i def. enjoyed it for a year or two.
