The 3G Ramblings & General Discussion Thread (V)
I'm a mail carrier. I'm fairly new, but I really enjoy it. It's a nice change, and it's nice being out on my own. I had to get out of the management position at my old job.. It wasn't worth the stress and constant schedule change
nice! some of the mail carriers here in houston get A/C trucks/jeeps. hope they treat you well
The office where I'm transferring to has a route that I sub on, and it goes behind Lopez Lake and into the hills.. It gets pretty warm out there, but once you work your way down the mountain, it gets cool again.
I do want to switch to the city side..there's more overtime and I can move up faster. I'm paid evaluated time,so if my route is evaluated at8.9 hours, and I get done in 6.5, I still get paid the 8.9, but if I take more time, I'm SOL.
Is it really difficult to put the mail that is addressed to a particular person, in that particular person's dedicated mailbox?
Because it seems like my carrier relies entirely on chaos theory to sort mail into boxes. But at least she remembers to close AND lock the mail box most of the time now.
I'm just wondering if maybe it's orders of magnitude more difficult than I think it is and I should cut the delivery people some slack.

Also, when I get some rando's mail and I circle their address and put it back in the outgoing slot... Does it get RTS or will the carrier see their folly and put it in the right box?
Or does it depend on the particular carrier vis-a-vis their state of inebriation at the time?

the weirdest package I've dropped off was worms
city carriers don't case their mail..they just take it out to the street and deal with it out there while they are walking, so there is more error on the city side
if I mess up, I'll put it in the correct box. No point in making it go through the system again.. It could be important
no, but I've had some close shaves.. I haven't had to spray one yet though, but I've been chased and jumped back into the truck. Since I'm rural, 75% of the dogs are loose. They park and approach the truck, but if their owners come out, they're super friendly and harmless. They just want attention or treats

Yeah, I always put mis-delivered mail back in the slot and figured it made it's way to the right place. But recently, I got a piece of junkmail type letter delivered to me with my name and address. I did the same thing, circle the address and put it in outgoing - just like my neighbor might do if they got my mail.
I expected to see it back the next day. Nope. Never came back.
Which made me wonder about the bills and city documents I've put back in the system for the randos. Wonder if they ever got them?
