given my recent battery experience - thought we should alert Owners
My RL ate a battery every 3 yrs
Now RLX may be 2 yrs - probably only PAWS version
Tell-tales signs
D1/D2 Settings no longer active (D1/D2 lights on door do not light)
Steering wheel does not telescope in after shutting off car (May be consequence of losing Driver settings)
Shortcuts disappear (may also be consequence of lost Driver settings)
Note that Load Test did not definitely say battery was bad, but it would not start the car
I expect you are under warranty for a battery replacement? But if this car eats batteries like the RL, perhaps consider a non OEM alternative? Acura batteries have not impresses me as durable. I have not purchased a battery in 20 years, so I am not familiar with battery sizes and power ratings. But it appears the RLX battery is a more standard, unlike the RL's side post battery. There may be more options available that fit the RLX.
I was out of town when it failed and drove back on Friday night
Didn't have time to mess around with Dealer on Saturday, so I bought a Bosch.
Yes, RLX is more std than RL
I kept original battery to take to Dealer and complain, but out of town again this week

Gotcha. I assume you did not have time to wait on Acura Roadside Assistance to get you to a dealer and replacement?
A few years back when my RL'2 second or third battery died, I called Acura Roadside Assistance. They dispatched a service provider to jump start the car and he even had a replacement battery with him should the car not take the jump. In my case it was less than 20 minutes and I received sever follow up calls, including my dealer who wound up replacing the battery.
That was when I purchased a portable jumper for the car.
I've never really trusted load tests on batteries, alternators, and starters. I've had multiple instances on several different cars where "load test passes" but cars still won't start or crank. Replaced the supposedly 'good' part and lo and behold, it starts?!
ok, my dealer is an idiot
Finally had a chance to get the car in for service - it was due for a B13.
Took the bad battery to them and explained that I had to buy a battery because original battery went bad when I was out of town and I did not get back until the weekend. I had no choice but to buy a battery and install it on Sunday because I was leaving again Monday morning.
They said they had to check the battery before they could do anything. OK - I figured they would check it and call me to discuss.
Nope - call me and say car is ready and that they replaced the battery with another OEM. Me/Them dialog:
WTF? Why didn't you call me?
Well the only thing I can do is replace battery under warranty
I am out $150 for the replacement - you should have called to discuss
I gave you a free battery
Your crappy free battery does me no good. You know you should have called and you didn't
Went downhill from there
Then I drive the car home and the radio seems louder than normal at the usual setting. How can that be? I look at the audio settings and all the options (Bass, Treble, etc) are maxed out. How/Why did they do that? Spike when battery changed?
Your dealer is not an idiot. They just do not care what YOU want.
They bill their service time on warranty issues to Acura. THEY get money for replacing & installation of another battery from Acura, even if it was not what you wanted.
I equate it to a medical provider getting you medical equipment you really do not need or ask for, but you are just a vehicle for them to pillage your insurance.
