I found my transmission in L.A. (My parents live there) and we went in a treasure hunt for it.. Found mine for 640bucks with 72K and 3 month guarantee on a local junkyard still inside the Accord 2007 it came out, That was 4 years ago when the economy was still so-so.
Today I think a fair price would be 800 bucks if over 100K and +1000 bucks if it is under 100K.
My shift quality feels so much better than DW-1 on my AV6 transmission.
I have been running it now since the start of January 2016.
A 5qt jug is 30$ CAD or 17$ USD at Walmart.
I also have been running it in my 88 300ZX Turbo's auto trans and power steering.
If I destroy something, I'll be sure to post.
Odyssey forms, Bobistheoilguy and other forms have had great results.
I'm perfectly happy being the guinea pig with this.

DW-1 Already gets quick strong shifts does the Maxlife gets even harder shifts?, I would not use an alternative that makes the trans shift "Smoother" or Softer because of obvious reasons.

IMO it feels great. My car shifts like a new car again.
I wouldn't say harder, but more like a new transmission shifts?
Less noticeable of a shift lurch in tiptronic maybe?
Another aspect is that It's so cheap I can replace it way more often and not feel bad.
I have a siphon too, so it's really easy to change.

Got a 2002 TL with 2nd rebuilt trans getting ready to go bad. Found a shop in Los Angeles, Luiggis in SouthGate somewhat willing to do the AV6 swap. Seems like he prefer to rebuilt the TL trans with what he called updated parts but willing to do a AV6 swap. The question is if the AV6 trans is out of the car in his shop, how can I tell it is a 06-07 AV6? Any marking or serial numbers? Or is there any other Acura Trans shop who you would recommend for AV6 swaps? Thanks for your reply in advance.
You can tell the year by the Serial number in the transmission.. It matches that of the car it came out from. If the trans doesn´t have the VIN because they rip it off then its very hard.. BAYAs came out from 04 and 05s too.

That is the Honda Production Name for the transmission inside the AV6 = "BAYA"
our original transmission is called "B7WA" which is known for the HORRIBLE failure rates associated to Honda 1st gen 5 Speed Autos.
04 and 05 are years ala 2004 and 2005. Since BAYA was introduced in 2004 it looks practically the same up until 2007.. Then Honda changed the bell housing which prevents future retrofits from 2008 and up so the LAST AV6 that will fit is a 2007. We search for the 06 and 07 models because they have the least failure rates (Not even associated with the B7WA fiasco they failed for other reasons) and because they were the last re-design of the 5 Speed too before switching to a 6 Speed.
You can spot an old design from a new design by the ATF Filer, From the housing itself is very hard to tell them apart.
This is a B7WA
The BAYA doesn´t have a spin off filter, it uses a cartridge type.

read through the first few pages and there are some pictures explaining what that means. basically it's the first few letters of the transmission serial/model number. if you look at a transmission facing the front you'll see the big lettering on a sticker.
I've got a 2000 TL that is running fairly well overall but has the occasional slippage between 3rd and 4th, and of course the evil CEL is on with the "you are doomed" P0740 code.
We are trying to plan ahead to fix this just one time and the best way seems to be an AV6 swap. Does anyone know of any shops in north metro Atlanta that are willing to perform this?

Much like Yody's posts on page 1 and 2 of this thread, I had a fair amount of noise after the install with no noticeable damage to the donor AV6 tranny or torque converter. In my case it persisted until I made a few "spirited" runs in reverse on my way to work in a empty movie theater parking lot. I covered probably close to a mile in reverse with the engine at "healthy" rpms. After that, absolute silence from the transmission.
According to the GF, the car drives better that it ever has since she got it. The car is sentimental to her and she is over the top happy that it is not destined for the junk yard just yet.
If anyone is on the fence about this conversion, just go for it. You will love the results.

I'm planning on moving over every bracket that is different, but I'm just wondering if this is what everyone else has done.

I ended up using zip ties for a lot of parts... there are quite a few spots where things can't transfer over 100%...
Installed the AV6 over the weekend and broke 1 of the 8 bolts that hold the flex plate and torque converter. Is it ok to leave it like this or have to drill and remove the broken bolt?

Is it not possible to just fill through the fill hole, start it up and add fluid as it gets drawn into the torque converter?

I never filled mine up, left it as it came attached.

The yard had a clamp installed on my TC to keep it in place during transport.
It's been about 3 years since I did my AV6 swap, so I don't remember which brackets had to be transferred over and which stayed with the AV6, but I swapped over everything that needed to be swapped over from the TL trans to the AV6 and all the wiring harnesses and any other items attached to the new trans are attached exactly as they were to the TL trans. No zip ties, loose wires, etc. It looks exactly like the TL trans did from the factory. The only thing that I did not swap over was the range switch cover.
Well, the swap was a success! At least, so far. I only drove the car a few miles to test it out after finishing but WOW, what a difference. This tranny shifts very quickly and smooth. It's just amazing.
Only problem is, looks like I have some kind of power steering leak. I think it's been there but I just noticed due to manipulating the steering a lot while working on the suspension bits. Either that or I messed something up. Seems to be coming from somewhere around where the steering column connects to the rack. Didn't have time tonight to dig into it too much.

Hate to say it but you really need to extract that bolt and replace it. It might work ok but I wouldn't like to run it like that for long, I don't think it would be good for the flex plate.
it all transfers over 100% aside from the P/S loop. I bolted it all back on 100%. Even brackets to hold the wire harnesses.
Yep, I have the Type S so no P/S loop. I transferred over every single bracket, even swapped the dip stick tube (plus dipstick) since it has a bracket on it. Changed the front hanger bracket since on the Type S (not sure about TL-P) it connects to another bracket that braces the TCS valve assembly in the intake. The only part I had an issue with was the range sensor cover. Due to case differences, the old cover couldn't be used, but the AV6 cover had to be modified to fit over the sensor properly. Also I had to add a spacer where the range sensor harness bracket attaches, as the old case was slightly different in that location. After installing everything was exactly the same as stock.
A have been driving for a while now and man does the TC is way better? I have been averaging 26mpgs in the god damn city!
I have noticed that the car wants to go without even pressing on the gas, a lot more than before. Also, I used to have a high pitched whine that increased with engine speed that I could never track down, and that is gone. Hopefully it's gone for good.

How much modification did you have to do to the AV6 range sensor cover in order to get it to fit over the TL range sensor?

I have my 03 TL in a shop right now for the AV6 swap and provided the instructions to my mechanic told me that when trying to put the AV6 transmission into the TL, the speed sensor is not on the AV6. and that it doesn't fit when trying to put it in. I was wondering if you guys have heard of this before or anything related to the speed sensor, that he could be talking about? I remember reading it should be a direct bolt-on and the sensors shouldn't need to be touched, so that is why I'm concerned.
(the tranny is a 2007 v6 accord tranny with 80k)
