Yea - a lot of people like to blast GM for some of the cars they've put out in the past (and rightfully so) but they do have a bunch of talented engineers who are often hamstrung by management, beancounters, and lawyers. When the company actually puts some effort into it they can come up with some really good products - like the Suburban, Corvette, and the Volt.
With the prices of pre-owned hybrids nowadays they're a really good deal and while the Volt is not as fast as a TL, it's no slouch, and it'll blow away just about any other hybrid on the road. And it has more plug-in range than any other hybrid.
I couldn't find any other luxury sedan with a strong engine and stickshift like the TL. It's tough to find the stickshift even in Audi or BMW anymore, and Acura doesn't make anything stickshift. Porsche is even moving away from them. You used to be able to get something like a 3.5 V6 Nissan Altima stick, but that's no longer made either.
GM was asking $44K sticker for fully-loaded Volts when they came out (which is now down to about $39K), and remember the 3G TLs stickered for about $35K in their day.
Fair point. However, I'm not certain those more expensive brands have quite the same "green image" or "value" that the Leaf, Volt, and Prius do. Anyone who claims they're saving the planet by buying a BMW 7-series hybrid instead of the regular version is going to get some funny looks.
I've owned my 2007 Type S AT for 6 years now (bought 1 owner CPO). I've wanted to replace it for at least a year now, but I can't easily find something comparable/better... at least not at a decent price.
It has to have either AWD or FWD with a limited slip diff. That rules out most cars out there. And it has as quick/quicker than my TL-S. And no annoying CVT transmissions.
Also, I really want cooled seats. Yeah, I'm getting older but I hate swamp-butt from leather sets in the summer. Very few 4th gen TL's came with Advance trim, which has heated/cooled.
And no SUV's. Sorry... I like something that drives like a sports sedan.
So I keep driving my TL until some magic car that meets my needs arrives....
Drove a Q50 - did not like (and it's a little small).
Had an S4 simultaneous with my TL - got hit and run and car was totalled. Liked it, but it was also small (I need to carry several kids/people).
S4 too small too
GS-F - too much $$$. GS350 - drove it... was boring.
I sold my 2007 Acura TL Nav last year and bought 2007 Audi A6 V8 4.2. It turned out to be money pit and I decided to sell it. About two months ago I purchases 2013 Hyundai Azera with 49k miles. I bought the car as CPO that comes with 60k miles bumper to bumper and 100k miles powertrain warranty. I know that there are not to many fans of Hyundai here but I also wasn't one until I drove this car. This car has all the goodies that I could dream of:
- heated all four seats
- cooled front seats
- heated steering wheel
- panoramic sunroof
- ambient lights (check out the pictures)
- powerful HID lights
- manual back door window shades and automatic rear window shade
There are many more features but these are the key features that sold me on the car. It is a blast to drive. Interior is spacious and quiet. Soft touch leather is so nice and comfortable. I love the car! Note how big this car is on the last picture. Enjoy:
It's pretty sad that you can get features on a Kia/Hyundai that you can't find on a comparable German sedan. I drove 2 used Mercedes E classs (E350 and E550) and found the tech and features lacking.
I really liked the Genesis I drove but the 3.8 V6 was a little slow for the weight....

2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee High Altitude. Love it!

And it's treated you well? I know tons of people that LOVE their Cherokee's and then are so happy when they get rid of them months later. Lol
Yes they have been excellent vehicles and I have had a number of Jeeps. I know everyone has different opinions or experiences, but mine have all been VERY good with my Jeeps. On the Grand Cherokee forums early off there was some teething problems with the 8spd tranny in the V6 models, and some electrical gremlins, but that mainly effected early built 2014 models. Things seem to be pretty solid now with the Grand Cherokee.

I'm in the same boat as you. I hated Hyundai and Kia for years. Until I drove one. And bought one for the wife. What an overall great buy for the money. Still lotsa haters out there, but people are slowly changing their minds.
Glad to hear that man! Personally I think they are the best looking SUVs by a bunch.
Thanks, yeah I have always been a fan of the recent Grand Cherokees. They originally had the Altitude edition and I liked the look, but it was only based off the base Laredo model. Jeep listened to its customers and came out with the High Altitude edition which is based off the Overland/Summit and has all the cool features of the higher end trim models.
Haha yeah, those are cool, but serious $$$ still even for used and I don't even have to mention how it does on fuel. Just not the best for a daily commuter. I am very happy with the decent performance of my V6 8spd and 20-21mpg. Not even all that far off what I used to get in my Type S.
the guy who does all the body work and paint on my TL just bought the 2016 str8 grand cherokee. The red colour (not sure the exact name), Man does that thing ever have a stunning presence in person. Def ballin

That color is new for 2016 and is called Velvet Red. Here is a picture of a VR Night Edition SRT. Its friggin sick!
Yeah I would say the 2014+ models with the 8spd tranny are low 13 second mayyybe high 12 on a good run trucks. Not so much highway beasts, but where those things are deadly is from a stop. They launch very hard. I'm not 100% sure on this but I think guys pull 0-60 runs in the 4s.
I believe they are releasing a Grand CHerokee SRT Hellcat as well :-O

Yeah, a 13 flat AWD car is generally -4.5 seconds to 60. The Golf R with DSG turns similar numbers stock. An APR stage 1 ECU and TCU flash for $1500 drops it down to 12 flat in the quarter and -3.7 to 60. Stage 2 (free flash upgrade from stage 1 after buying their downpipe plus intake) is good for 11.6-11.7. The car is a blast and such a sleeper. Plus it still gets better gas mileage than our TLs. I need one soon.

Yeah but it's Volkswagen Golf I dunno what it is but Volkswagens have never done anything for me. I can't think of a single model that when it drives past me I'm just like wow, that car is bad ass.
Exactly why I like it. It's a sleeper. And I'm way past worrying about how others perceive my vehicle. I'm more concerned about my perception from the driver's seat.

Yeah I hear ya, but for me I gotta love the way the car looks as well. Has nothing to do about what other people think about the car.

Beautiful car and I think it is best color combo you could ever get! ;-)
I sold my 2007 TL Base to my son and bought a 2015 TLX V6 Tech. I also had a 2000 TL. The TL hits the value proposition that I want, premium sedan at a fair price.
Surprised to hear this.
I thought the GS350 would be more fun
I'm dead set on a GS350 AWD next year...
Q for you:
Back seat/leg room noticeably more than the 3G?
Main reason for switch is for the AWD and more room for car seats(expecting our 2nd in June).
well, i didn't get the GS350...
ended up with a loaded RX350 with 21K miles.. #dadlife #strollerclub
I'm actually enjoying the RX more than i thought i would. Comfy, smooth, roomy, and loaded with options i didn't have on the TL.
I'll rock the RX for a few years, and get into that GS i still yearn for
Recently added a 2015 GTR to the stable. After 5+ satisfying years with the TL-S, it was time to get something more fun to satisfy an itch for more power and better handling. Originally, it was a lot of back and forth between the M5 and E63S for months but ended up driving a friend's GTR which is what sealed the deal. After thinking about it, we didn't need another sedan and it made better sense because the depreciation hit was taken by the previous owner. The tough part will be moving on from the GTR if it ever happens. The car ruins people and now I understand it first hand. No other cars in the same price range is as fun to drive.
I'm currently looking for a 1st gen 6MT G35 coupe in not black for a second car. 215,180 miles on my Accord, want to keep using it for work for the next 3-4 years. It's paid for, still looks and runs good and is relatively inexpensive to maintain. But I want another 6 speed car but prefer to go with RWD.
Why a first gen G35? Newer ones look too feminine to me, plus you can find good first gens for $10k or less. Rather just pay cash for something.

I've been in one, for a ride. Beasts!
Congrats on that
