this was my thought exactly. I think you need a long allen wrench extension to get to it. hence why the alignment guy was prob saying we gota keep lifting it up and down etc etc, he prob just said fk i can't reach it lol
haha keep us updated! don't let them make you settle, you paid good money for stuff!
SPC upper adjustable balljoint on front, for instance...the 27MM nut that allows you to remove and slide it...is on TOP. So with the car on the wheel, you will not see it...and even when you do, it's hard to get at without taking load off the front upper control arm and loosening to get your tool on. Same with the 4 allen wrench heads, I bet that none of them are very visible from below, and if they are, there isn't much clearance to get your hand and a tool in there.
So...to answer the question, YES...you're paying for an alignment...but if they are doing more than just the run of the mill oem camber adjust (when applicable) and toe adjust (good luck with any caster adjust)...you're not going to get a shop to jack up, remove, fiddle with, check where it's at...
for $59.95-$99.99 as this would likely take them a few hours. Specialist shops are used to it...the ones that corner balance etc but they do NOT charge very little...they charge a LOT. For this reason.
Also, most of those shops and dealerships have a caveat where they do NOT have to touch anything aftermarket because of the "for offroad use" and then liability if you eat tires, a cheap camber kit bushing fails and you end up crashing into a guardrail...etc.
So, although I kinda do it to be a nice guy...I also do it because it's unrealistic to expect my tech buddy to do it in the allotted time on his ticket.
As far as eyeballing...to a degree (get it?) I do...but I also measure distance on the balljoint or adjustable arm to ensure they're both equal. AND I eyeball...AND I use a level to see where 0 is and ensure I'm negative of that. Then I go there and pay to have steering wheel set perfectly, and the toe to zero...
My buddy today is like, how the fuck do you eyeball it and always get the damned camber so close to spec. He put it on the lift today...basically -1 front/rear BOTH SIDES. Got lucky...but that's what I was thinking it was, so it felt good to confirm.
Anyway, these are just my experiences and opinions...there are more than one way to skin a cat so take it for what it's worth.
Called a specialist alignment shop today and told him the scenario and said he can do the front no probs. He said he's seen quite a few of these and that guys who are slammed go to him lol.
alignment getting sorted out on monday, then fender dent getting sorted out tuesday. man it never seems to end with this car, I just want to enjoy it for a cpl days FFS
Obv shitty pic, I just edited it to make it brighter too see as its a overcast day and lots of shadows, hard to see the ride height. What kind of height adjustments do you think. def needs more low in the rear
Needs spacers badly too now that I look at it

nice shots! front is pretty good, i would lower rear half an inch.
if you really want to squeeze a little more low i would go 24.75" all around...but i'm bias to that haha
yea I might actually give the 24.75 all around a shot actually. so that measurement is from ground to fender eh?

going to drop the front another 1/4'' tomorrow . Im thinkin about only dropping the rear 1/2'' instead of 3/4'' in order to ensure that I dont have to roll fenders when I put a 15mm or 20mm spacer on. So the front would be at 24.75'' and the rear 25''. what do you think?
I've been driving on my Falkens since day 1 with my drop and no alignment. Now rubbing in the rear with the 25mm spacers. Giggity
Im just being an idiot right now. Realized quick these Falken Azenis arent that great of tires. I wanted to pick up a front camber kit before an alignment but I never got one so I never got an alignment. hahaha
I plan to pick up a camber kit, another pair of 25mm spacers, new tires, THEN I'll get the alignment hahahaha.
alright so got the front lowered today to 24.75'' in the front and just a hair under 25'' in the rear. But heres the deal, Ill only be able to fit 5mm spacers unless I get fenders shaved and rolled which no one around here does it nor do I really want to take the risk of breaking the paint in the rear since I had rust repair in those areas (new metal welded in).
I hear you on not wanting to hurt the paint. Get 5mm and call it a day. Still going to look good! You could pick up camber kit or some bolts and maybe add -2 camber. That should let you go to 10 or maybe 15mm.

I have all the camber kits in the rear but I dont know if I want to run -2 in the rear. wouldnt it look kinda of sideways lol?
and i dont think id feel comfortable running 10mm. 5mm doesn't compromise much stud but 10mm seems a bit much, where as 15mm has the extended studs
-2 wont look bad at all. IMO some cars can even pull off -5 with no issues and still look great. Sideways IMO is going to be like -10. Don't do that. LOL
I will probably be looking for a -3 camber all around. I like that look. Its tilted just enough to notice but its not going to put excessive wear on the tires. But you will notice a slight tilt.
ill try the 5mm on all four sides first and see how I like it. If I get bored and want to go more aggressive I can easily get that dialled in and beef up the spacer size!
Good reference! Yeah -3 looks great IMO. I could even run -4 or -5 and be happy myself. I bet Im around -4 or more with natural camber. I want my front to match. I love my rear camber how it sits now.
There is...
but if was easy, then everyone would have perfect and pretty stance. That's what sets yo apart from the guys that got a rim shop, throw on a set of wheels and whatever springs and then expect to be bustin it...
they don't understand that the car looking perfect could be as simple as another 3/4" here or there and then being flush.
Funny Jon...I originally used to be anti camber all day every day...NO CAMBER...must be zero...I want my tires to last. Then I realized how temperamental the 3G is with squatting and toe and that no matter what, the camber wouldn't hurt me as badly as the toe. Now, I don't shy away from it.
^Agreed, Ive been at it for 2 weekends now, finally got the height dialled in, but now I need to fix my dampening Had it at full soft. Felt like I was on slinkies lol. Going to try it at 4 clicks. 8 was too stiff for my liking
I actually stand corrected from one of my last posts.
24.5'' in the front and 24.75'' in the rear is where I'm at now. Absolutely zero room for any sort of spacer with the fenders not rolled or shaved. Might be able to squeeze in a 5mm lol
Alignment was done today. Camber is at -1 in the rear and -0.65 in the front
Some pics: shitty parking lot pics but at least theyre pics right?
I like the height! Going to run these calipers for the season, then get my RL calipers on next season. (Def going with white I think they'll look amazing) These are all new brakes so might as well burn these out first lol
The ding that happened during install of suspension. Dropping it off to the body shop tomorrow and let them work their magic

EXACTLY! Excessive camber can create a lot of wear. But -3 is great all day.
Height looks great man! I wouldn't even bother with the spacers at all looks fine.
If you haven't bought the other calipers yet, I would say just skip it not sure it's worth the effort, time, and money. You should just paint these ones white! Just get the g2 white paint and you'll be done in 2 hours and only 40 bucks gone
Whoah whoah whoah...two blue cars...with same color advan, similar suspension height...and now you're doing the same caliper cover! We're gonna be wearing the same dress at prom!!!!
Looks great, Jeff...it really does, congrats on a well put together car.
