Ding Repair '07 TL

A truck drive woke me up this morning to show me the mistake he had made trying to deliver to a pharmacy in front of my house. He didn't wanted to get the authorities involved so he offered me $500 and his contact information in case it cost more to repair.

How should i go about getting it repaired? Pic attached.

Could probably go paintless dent repair. Should be able to pop that out and level it with there tools. Not sure on the cost. Would probably require the headlight assembly to be taken out.

Take it to the nearest Best Buy parking lot for the guy in the minivan. He'll fix you right up.

LOL

PDR is a no go.

Repair is about $800. Repair fender; paint fender and blend hood. Remove bumper and headlamp.

Doesn't make any sense for you to take any risk in short changing yourself with taking a set amount of dollar less than estimated repair. Go get an estimate of the repair.

Propose to the other person that he pay you in advance a $1000 dollars cash with the contingency that he shall pay more if necessary to cover any unforeseen cost. However, if repairs are less than $1000 dollars, you will return to the other person the unused dollar amount.

You will choose repair shop of your choice.

Get this in writing with the vehicle licenses; other person's driver license number; and a statement of being the other person being at fault with date/time of incident.

Get the document certified by the other person, a witness, and yourself along with the current date.

Remember, you're doing the other party a "favor" and taking a risk by do this favor in "good faith".

Ahh the headlamp looks damaged. One of those are probably $500?

Better get $1500 cash in advance.

I just paid $300 for 2 dents removed. A half dollar sized dent and a quarter sized. That's not cheap. This prob will cost over $500 easily.

I have a copy of his licenses and his phone number with the $500 cash he had on hand. I'm going to a body shop tomorrow to get an estimate on the repair.

We agree that he would pay more the balance if it comes out to be more which from what you guys said will probably be more.
I have a few witnesses but no written agreement luckily, i have gotten a video camera on my porch with the footage if he ever decide not to cooperate.

Just got the mark up guys. Comes out to just over $1400 including a new headlight. Now the shop i brought the car to, I've been there a few times with past cars and they always have done a great job.

He told me that the headlight isn't badly damage to warrant a replace so he'll just buff which will bring the total to around $600. So i have the choice of taking the $1400 from the guy and have an extra $800 in mt pocket, go ahead and replace the headlight or be a nice guy a knock a few hundred of the price.

The $800 difference for 1 new headlight doesn't seem right. And there's no need to steal from what seems to be an honest guy.. Karma will come back and get ya.

Go ahead and take the $200 for your trouble. Time is money. Plus you might need a rental car while your car is in the shop.

Jeez...
can't believe you even considered stiffing him for the headlight cost.
I can't believe he let you know he did it.

All three are awesome!

1. The guy being honest and manning up.

2. OP for doing him a favor in good faith.

3. Me for returning this gift. I was thanked for doing my job very well but what they don't know is that's how I treat everyone. LOL
