I've finally decided to pull the trigger for a 2016 TLX 2.4 base. I will be trading in the 2007 TLS with 139,000 miles. Below is what the dealer is offering me. What do you guys think?
Not wanting to handle private party sales is basically throwing $3k - $4k in the garbage. Why not just sell it to someone for $7k? It'll be sold here on AZine in 1 afternoon for $7k. I know you're excited for the TLX but remember there are hundreds more available to you. With just a little more patience you could be borrowing closer to $20k for a brand new TLX. Don't pay for tint. Don't give away money if you can spare the patience. Good Luck
Negotiate from original sticker price, not the add ons price. Wheel locks are $30 and 2 minutes to install. Tint probably cost them $100. Tell them you want one without both items. First offer is always worst offer.
Good luck!
They're only giving you $1,899 (5.82%) off MSRP? You can do better than that. Much better.
$399 for Perma Plate is a rip off. It's no better than what you'd get from a $12 bottle of Dura Gloss 105 or $15 bottle of Collinite 845.
$75.60 for Acura wheels locks is expensive. I've seen them for $40 or less online. They're also poorly designed, IMO, since they're not spline driven. I've seen many people post about how the lock and/or key breaks easily.
You can get a set of higher quality Gorilla wheel locks off Amazon for $20:
$299 for tint might be expensive or it can be fair. We don't know the type or brand. Not all tint is the same. But if this is a dealer installed thing, they more than likely went with something cheap to pad their margins.
Honda does for Acura cars. Based upon my experience, its a waste of money as the maintenance costs on TLX are not high and the plans (even at a discount) dont save you much.
MSRP is $31,695, they have it listed for $32,635, almost 1K more than sticker!!!! Then on top of that, they charge you for tint and other stuff!
Don't pay for any accessories such as PERMA PLATE, TINT & wheel locks. They can be removed or there certainly is another car at the dealership without them. That's close to $2000 saved there.
2nd is the trade in value. You are not getting a decent price on the trade in. The "discount" they gave you is literally the difference in what they should have given for the car. Overall, it's not a good deal.
Trade in info:
If they give you average trade in, remove the stuff and keep that discount then it's an OK deal. Beware that the 2017's are going to come out in 2-3 months also and they are going to have more incentives.
Also the dealer is going to be making more money off of you if you finance through them. If you do finance your car, they can give you more of a discount.
I took my old car to Texas Direct Auto and used their quote to get a better trade in. CarMax is very similar. I used to sell my old cars myself but I don't have the energy for that now. Plus in Texas you only pay sales tax on the difference between the sales price minus the trade in.
The paint protection and the tint are the car dealer equivalent of the guy on the corner with the squeegee. The paint protection is the equivalent of what you can buy at Autozone. They are really trying to sell you a warranty that the will try very hard not to honor if it costs them money. The tint is likely $99 tint job and will fade or bubble eventually. If you live in a very hot part of the country I'd have them remove it and put something better on.
I have to agree with most here that when buying a car, you have to be extra vigilant of the fine print associated with the contract.
Car dealership are the closest thing to legalized prostitution! You exchange money to get screwed repeatedly with no love being exchanged, not to mention that they always have a list of "extras" readily available.
I know we all want a good deal but I go in the experience knowing that in the end, they will always make money off me. I am OK with that....I don't work for free and need money just as much as the salesperson, the dealer and other employees. As long as they remain ethical and upfront, then I am OK.
By ethical, I mean, if they sell me the car at MSRP because that is what they want to, then I decide when I feel if its OK or not. The thing that upsets me is when you bring your car for service and try to get you to pay for a service that is not required or replace a perfectly fine part just to make money....that is where it gets me mad.
Don't over analyze the deal....do you homework but don't beat yourself crazy trying to figure out if you could have saved an extra 200$ here or there.....once you sign the dotted line, grab the keys and enjoy every miles of your new car
$6800 for your TL seems awful low. I saw other people post to sell on here for 7k, but its not worth all that time to only make 200 more. I dunno where you are but in LA a 07 type s even with that mileage is worth easily 10,000. I do not know about lease numbers so cant comment on anything else. Good luck
Thanks for all the help guys! I negotiated the car for 30,500 (no trade in). Then I added the aero and spoiler for a total out the door of 32,900. Here she is!
