There's lot of inter-reviewer variability too.

The 1 review above the Yahoo one says the gearing is GREAT...and then the Yahoo review says the gearbox seems confused on finding the right gear.

The constant seems to be a numb steering feel...which seems to be more so in the quite/daily mode and not as much in the sport+/track mode.

I think this interior slaps the shit out of the new r8 interior.
I do like the design of the interior as well quite a bit. Honda really hit it out of the park with the exterior and interior design of the car.

He was right since Honda has superior bhp.

570 Honda HP = 855 WHP in other cars.

To each their own, design preferences are inherently subjective. I would gladly substitute the R8 interior into the NSX.

Indeed - I believe two other reviewers said the gearbox was so good that it's better to just let the car shift itself on the track.

I agree - I think Michelle Christensen/team nailed the design.

I didn't realize the NSX was 700 lbs heavier than the Huracan, though!

I think "they" say the same thing about the PDK.

I was referring to the varying degrees of like/dislike for gearbox's performance.

First drive: the brand-new Honda NSX

First drive: the brand-new Honda NSX | Top Gear

Interesting comments
So you’re impressed?

In a word yes, more than I had expected to be if I’m honest. The scale of achievement in making this immensely complex car feel so immersive is what sticks in the mind. The braking, steering and integration between the V6 and three motors could have been a recipe for a car that constantly interrupted your enjoyment. In the NSX you learn to drive with the systems not against them, and in return it delivers a fascinatingly engaging experience.

In many ways it would be wrong to compare the NSX to an R8 or 488 although those are the benchmark competitors. In fact it feels more directly related to a Porsche 918. Both took years to get right, both hide their additional mass with trick electronics and both represent a new kind of performance car that’s hard not to admire.

Supercars used to be one trick ponies, but the NSX represents a new generation. For some, Quiet mode will be anathema, but for others that, and the breadth of the NSX’s capabilities, represent a new and attractive proposition. Honda describe the NSX as an articulation of the brand as a whole and more importantly “not the finish line, just the start point”. Having been so long in the making it would have been painfully easy for the NSX to disappoint, but for my money, it was well worth the wait.

would be so cool to be able to build cars like the NSX. It doesn't look like your typical assembly line, so the assemblers likely take extra care in building the car. The perfect job for OCD inclined people

Firstly, I'm glad to read the more positive press incoming for the NSX.

GOOD. Hopefully this inspires the bozos running Honda/Acura to start making envelope-pushing cars throughout their lineups. Maybe a sporty coupe?

Now...as I've been asking for pages and pages and pages and pages and pages...When is the NSX coming out? Release date yet?!??

Acura news link: Acura Announces Plans for Start of Serial Production of the 2017 Acura NSX - Acura News

Acura today announced that the all-new Performance Manufacturing Center will begin serial production of the next-generation Acura NSX supercar in late April, with customer deliveries to commence thereafter.
Looks like deliveries will/may happen in May.

They will actually be made next month!!!

One of the articles I read also stated that all test mules & such will be destroyed, except those kept for static displays. May have been the 11 things article from Top Gear.

Yep, it was #4. I was amazed at that number I woulda thought ~30 prototypes

During development of the new NSX, Honda built more than 250 prototypes. All of them will be crushed, the only exceptions being those saved for a static display.

Sad face.

Hopefully that is just cause they need more room to start building more boundary pushing cars. as far as the number of prototypes, I am sure they had one car built to test just one small part of the whole package.

Looks like the media embargo is gone and the journliasts are now publishing the info they got from the tour recently.

WIRED reporting production rate of 8 cars a day.

Reading the production process..dayum. Very nice to see the amount of QC and precision.

Well, I'll officially stop be "hatting" at the present rate then.

But, is it wrong of me to have just a nagging weird feeling that Honda will pull the rug on all of us and cancel the car suddenly on the eve of release...?

Here are 2 laps in the NSX posted by Jeff from TOV:

The second lap, you can see that Jeff ran a 1:28 on that track. Some comments:
- First time Jeff ran on that track
- First time Jeff drove the NSX
- Jeff isn't a pro driver
- He slowed down before finishing the full lap on the main straightaway
- Jeff feels that the NSX could easily get 1:23

Now, here is a video of a pro driver driving 5 different hyper cars at the same track:

You can skip to all the way to the end for the lap times, but here they are if you don't feel like watching:

huayra: 1:23.76
Veyron: 1:23.006
P1: 1:18.822
LaFerrari: 1:18.46
918: 1:18.44

And here are some other lap records shown on fastest laps.com:
Dodge Viper ACR (Mk V) James Sofronas 1:21.86
SRT Viper TA Alex Gurney 1:23.40
SRT Viper GTS James Sofronas 1:24.18
Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 Alex Gurney 1:26.10
Nissan GT-R (R35 550 PS) Alex Gurney 1:26.40
Aston Martin V12 Vantage S Alex Gurney 1:26.60

Feeling you can get 1:23, and actually getting 1:23 are two very different things. I'm not saying the NSX can't get that time, but that's kind of a ridiculous statement.

Just stating what Jeff, the owner of TOV, said, that's all. Nothing more, nothing less.

the problem with weight is not that it is slow (see GTR)

No amount of tech can offset the heaviness feeling (Enjoyment) (again see GTR)

If you are going for time attack (again see GTR), then it doesnt mater.
If you are driving for fun, you just can't offset the weight.

If we go by the #s, then the conclusion is

The much newer, more expensive, more tech, and more "powerful" NSX is about the same as the old ass GTR and it is not even a hybrid.

If you asked me, that is fucking fail.

Interesting comparison between the 1G and 2G NSX's, perhaps not practical but sorta a reflection of then and now

Uh, not really. By the end of the day, there's this thing called Physics that still limits everything we do. And it gets fucking expensive to push the limits. The GTR is 5 seconds slower on that track. We have no idea what conditions, tires, mods (if any) were used. But, 5 seconds is huge.

And apparently outrunning the Huayra and Veyron still makes this car a fail. So what do you call those two then? Granted, the Veyron is more of a GT car, but the Pagani was built to assault track surfaces.

Of the cars posted, only the 3 hyper cars were faster. Oh, and the ACR viper that beat it by 0.04seconds. Essentially a tie, in my mind.

I don't particularly take any side, when it comes to this car. Or many others, for that matter. I go by the proof. The NSX is no slouch.

You are also speculating it's a piece of shit to drive, yet you've never sat in one. Not sure what you're basing your judgement on. The fact it's loaded with computers? Which super/hypercar these days isn't?

Personally, I'm fine with the results. The fact that the driving impressions are pretty darn good overall is fantastic to read.

What I've maintained and "hatted" on is still the release. So, if Honda/Acura does not pull a typical "cancel" or "delay"...and it finally is released soon, I'm good. It'd be vaporcar no more.
