2004 Acura TL... Totaled. What's Next?

I was rear-ended last week on 9/23/13 by some lady outta state from North Carolina. I was at a complete stop on the highway due to traffic and got hit pretty hard from the rear which caused me to hit the car in front also. I guess she wasn't paying attention and the car in front didn't have much damage, so they were okay. I got whiplash and went to the hospital afterwards and was prescribed with some muscle pain medications.

Now the insurance company states that my vehicle is a total loss. I am just waiting to see how much they would offer me. Meanwhile, I feel very sad about my loss as I've worked pretty hard and this was my first car so it carried sentimental values. (This is my first auto accident by the way so I probably sound whiny but it really hurts ...)

My question is... Which car should I get next? I am leaning towards the 2007 - 2008 Acura TL-S 6-Speed, 4th Generation Acura TL 6-speed manual SH-AWD and also the 2008 Infiniti G37s 6-speed manual. I love Acuras. That's why I am considering another one. But I also love the semi-luxury RWD Coupe with 330 hp. Such a tough choice. I'm just looking for a sporty car that looks nice and is fun to mod with low mileage. I find Acurazines more fun, inspiring and informative than any other forums. This is why I don't wanna leave Acura.

I guess this is also a vent because I know people like you guys care, others say "it's just a car". Also, I've included some photos of my TL when it was wreck. Still so beautiful, I miss it. Thanks all for reading!

More pics later.

Id say either the Infiniti or the same gen TL you got if you want something fun to mod. The G37s would probably win that battle but I personally love VIP inspired 3rd Gen TLs so Id take that route myself.

That sucks. I didn't think it looked that bad until I saw the 3rd pic. The 4th gen TL would be a contender for me, but I don't like the styling quite as much as the 3rd gen.

Ouch, that looked particularly nasty. I was involved in a very similar collision last year.

I say get the G37. RWD will be addicting.

I've driven my gf's G37 coupe from time to time and I'll say that it is quite nice. The fun factor is definitely there but the one thing that I had an issue with was how little head room I had inside. Aside from that, it's a good car.

But if you do decide on getting back into an Acura, definitely go for any 3G, whether it's a base or Type-S. Hope you feel better man!

id stick to hondas since the g37 will depreciate alot when it gets old. trust me. and they get horrid gas mileage.

if you love honda's then just get another TL. they are fun to drive and easy to mod! ive driven G37's before and they arent as comfortanle as the TL's...

if you can budget a Type-S def go for it, they are awesome!

my base 6mt TL edged out a G37.
on paper, it might be the more powerful car, but it is heavy and has more drivetrain loss due to rwd.

and even tho the 4th gen TL doesnt look nice, it would be a dream to drive with 6MT and SHAWD.

Glad you werent seriously injured.

got to wait and see what the insurance is willing to dish out. Too bad you are in texas I would have loved to steal your engine and tranny and swap it into my boring automatic

Thank you everyone for your input and blessings. The insurance have called and offered me $9470... That's way too low for a great condition car. I have to reasons more with them. Hate these bastards. I can't find any low mileage TL or TL-S so I might have to go with the G37s.

Dang. Didn't look so bad from the front but those rear pictures look terrible. It could have been worse but I know the feeling of losing something so sentimental and having to start fresh. Good luck with whatever new vehicle you get.

PS -- front lip still looks good! Will it fit my '08 Type S? Kidding.. good luck!

I say figure out a way to buy the car back. You can part it out and make tons of money. The insurance should still give you some nice money but will ask for like $1000 back. Trust you'll make more parting it out. Especially if it's modded you can sell what's still good. The. Junk it for like $400. Just my two cents

Word. You can make some decent coin selling what's good on that car.

If I were you I'd look for a 6MT Type S. I've driven my good friend's G37S 6MT Coupe many times, like someone said before on paper the 330 HP and RWD looks nice but it doesn't feel all that fast when you drive it due to how heavy it is. Me, personally I'm not a fan of the styling and the Infiniti interiors are 'meh' at best. The G35 6MT Coupe to me is a better looking car and I think it's faster too.

Right because that's exactly what somebody wants to do after their car has been wrecked. Deal with buying a wrecked car back, advertising the parts, shipping etc etc. Buying back and parting out a car would be the last thing I would want to deal with. Besides, what's he going to sell that's going to give him more than what insurance is going to offer, it's an older base model with a lot of exterior parts already destroyed.
IMO the G37's are just so dime a dozen. People act like rwd is soooo much fun, when in reality during 99% of your daily driving it's no different than fwd or awd.

Those new SHO's are pretty cheap and have lots of pep. Otherwise, Go snag a TL. If your feeling generous, I'd love to have one of those rims

Sorry for your loss though, thats tough brother.

If they lowball you on a payoff just show them ads for similar condition TLs in the area which are priced way higher than $9k... I got $12xxx for mine when it was totaled a couple years ago, and it was an 05 with 120k on it.

Do you owe any money on the car or has been paid off? That will come into factor too if you still owe on the car. but 9k ill take that. Id prefer to just not deal with it and move on.

Acura has always treated me well, and because it's essentially a FWD honda, repairs are fairly cheap.

if you can find a deal on a 4th gen 6mt, i'd get it despite its looks. The sh-awd in my friends' RL is awesome. If not, then Type-S 6MT. Saw an old lady driving a WDP Type s today.

Thank you for all of your inputs! After searching for 3rd Gen TL-S & 4th Gen TLs 6SPD-MT, I've found none, unfortunately. Most of the cheap ones are accident involved. I've came across few G37s, and finally bought one. Thank you everyone for your concerns and thoughts, they all were well appreciated.

Even though I own an Infiniti now, I will still come on Acurazine from time to time. Hopefully my next car will be an Acura NSX.

Not true, the 7-speed G37s are rated at 19/27. 6-speed Type-S is rated at 18/27.

Sucks.. hope your neck is okay. Those type of injuries can manifest from minor pain and strain to chronic pain. I'm not into lawsuits, but when real injury is involved, you want to seek the best advice and ensure you don't get screwed over later on.

Also, most of the quality members and OGs don't own Acuras anymore but stick around. So feel free to start a thread in the car talk section to tell us about your new car.

Also, fucking out-of-staters.. Just when I get annoyed by truck drivers in TX who think they own the road and drive a racecar.. some out of town sucker is going 50 in a 75 or causing an accident. Git!

G37s!

If some short hapa chink pulls up next to you at a light in a 2006 ASM 6spd TL with a dent in the rear quarter panel from hitting a tree (think asian mom minivan mode, but drunk) and starts revving his engine. Play along, but don't race him. Let him get ahead because he'll end up hopping a curb and posting a thread on it. #justnjax #kisses #snicker

$10k for a base '04 AT TL is very good but if it had fairly low miles and in very good condition +thousands in mods.. not so good.

That's awesome. We should all pitch in and send Justin to driving school with an emphasis on tree and curb avoidance. It could be worse, I was late for work one morning a couple months ago because an EVO had hit a tree in the divider at 140+ mph. The road was closed down for 8 hours because they were looking for body parts, the heart was found 150 yards (or was it feet) from the rest of the body. So what's a little dent in the quarter panel lol.
