I'm going to attempt doing my mounts next week, does anyone have a DIY (don't believe I've come across one) or any tips? Especially for the rear mount... TIA

 

o man the rear mount is a PITA....i highly recommend paying $80 for a shop to do the rear.

front is okay. remove the radiator fans for more clearance and make sure you have a variety of extentions and sockets.

side mount is EASY i can do it in like 10 min. only 2 bolts holding it on bottom and 1 bolt on top and very easy access.

Thanks to the both of you.. well technically I'm doing it at my uncle's shop with his and my brother's help. Just getting some pointers because he specializes in DOHC 4cyl Hondas (ex-pro drag racer).

As far as the rear, it can be done through the top of the engine, correct?

 

 

It's honestly not that bad. I did mine with just a jack and stands.

 

If your uncle has a shop, then this will be no problem. Some extensions, socket u-joints and air tools will make this a breeze.

 

like others said... side takes 2 minutes... front, isnt too rough.. the rear is a BITCH

honestly, the best method is old school... get a floor jack and some 2x4's.... put the 2x4 between the oil pan and the floor jack, and jack up the engine slightly (or lower it) to help with aligning the mount

what happens to some people, is they remove the mount and then the holes wont line up... it can become a real bitch to fix

Damn I'm sore as f***. Did all 3 of my mounts yesterday and took my about 4 hours. Even though I was able to utilize my uncle's shop I did 95% of the work because my brother and uncle were busy building a roll cage for another car.

Like you guys said, side was a breeze (I wish they were all that easy). Front wasn't a big deal after removing the radiator fans, I found that I couldn't remove the driver side fan without removing the top hose. The rear was a bitch, just because of the awkward positions you had to be in, other than that, they were all pretty straightforward.

What really gave me a hard time was probably the simple things. Banged up my finger removing the vacuum line from the front mount, and had to do the rear over because I pinched the vacuum line without knowing and tightened down the bolts $#!+.

Another pointer... the front and rear are filled with fluid so if they're cracked... don't turn them upside down. I made that mistake with the front mount while messing with the vacuum line.

Once all is down, enjoy the clunk free driving and rattle free cold morning starts! ...and take some pain relievers the next day because you will be sore.

 

How much has your idle changed? Is there still some vibration?

 

wait. did you replace with OEM mounts, or did you go with Innovative...?

I had Innovative 75A mounts on my 3G TL-S... oh my what a world of difference

 

I went with OEM, didn't want any rattles.. but I guess that doesn't matter right now... my trans just died.

Would you mind expanding on this thought? I also have a 3G TL-S, sitting at 178k and I anticipate having a little play money in-pocket next month & trying to figure out some modest yet good bang-for-buck upgrades/changes.
