Type II intake manifold

the reason i did my HID retrofit was because i saw surfin scotty do it. the reason i did this type II IM swap was because i saw tony do it, i'm such a biter! anyway, here are the pics.

located a type II IM on cragislist who turns out to be ken's friend who also happens to have a legend coupe parts car so i also got his front strut bar.

dirty type II IM

after some simple green and a toothbrush

still some carbon in there

all clean after some brake cleaner

before pic in case i forgot where everything goes

IM out, see that blue and gray wiring harness in the valley where the IM was, DO NOT touch it or the sensors or you'll end up having to replace them and take out the IM again. i could go on forever about all the vacuum hoses and sensors that you need to undo just to get to this part. frustrating at first but its the only way you can learn about this kind of stuff...

looks not too bad for 115k. is there supposed to be oil in that little center pocket? scraping the paper gasket off is sooo tedious. found out soaking it in hot water works wonders.

dirty type I vs clean type II

EGR chamber wasn't too bad either

new o-rings everywhere on the fuel injectors. the old rings still looked new.

cleaned and ready for reassembly. playing with the VSS butterflys was kind of fun. IIRC, the side butterflys open at 4100 rpms, when does the center butterfly open or close?

all buttoned up, ready to go. see the hole at the top left? forgot to get the gasket for that. it is the air suction joint gasket. i ended up reusing the old one. you can also cut one out of gasket material or cardboard.

back in the car. no fuel leaks! you can see the mounting brackets for the front strut bar. still trying to get it to fit w/o drilling.

TYPE II, still need to put the fuel rail covers on. hope you guys enjoyed the pictures, didn't take as many as i wanted because my hands were filthy. props to ken for answering all my questions. i still can't believe you did this all in one day. the backs of my legs are still sore from leaning forward into the engine bay all the time.

how the did the swapping of the injector studs go? I completely forgot about the gasket for the air suction pipe. Luckily, it's not very important. Looks like you did a great job on everything, especially for a first timer! To put on the legend fuel rail covers using the stock closed end nuts, you have to shorten the studs btw.

swapping the injector studs was cake, thanks for the tip! i would have never figured it out myself. for those of you who are wondering, take two nuts and tighten them against each other and then unscrew with the bottom nut to remove the injector studs.

hey man, thanks for the gasket hookup. didn't notice a huge difference yet but rain and traffic prevented me from getting past 3000 rpms. i was happy enough that the car started when i fired it up the first time and i didn't throw any real codes. i'll let you guys know how it feels when the weather clears up in a bit, supposed to snow in davis tonight and tomorrow!

I have to admit, I like how your car looks without any window tint. But for some reason I can't seem to live without it..

no eyelids, just poor lighting... they don't look right on our cars, or most cars for that matter

^ Whole grill, it looks like. The backing is too perfect to be an A one. Besides, look how clean the black part is. Definitely a Saber grill.

~Cheers~

Go90go's right. it's the entire grill, got it off ebay but only swapped the center emblem "mount" since the rest of the grill is exactly the same as ours.

Your car looks sick, and it's so ridiculously clean!

Also, post more pics if you have some since they're always a pleasure to look at.

did removing the old emblems leave you with etched in/chipping paint?

the paint underneath was perfect after I clayed it, only some residue from the double sided tape remained. but remember the rear half of my car was re-painted ~5 years ago so i expected it to still be in good shape.

This is by far one of the cleanest cars i've seen on this entire site. I'm all about the JDM factor. I've always gone this route as well. One question... I'm shock you have no window tint. Will you ever do this? It would def make the dark wheels "pop" even more. I must say I love this car best with the 5th gen Prelude wheels.

Congrates on maintaining a nice car.

Thanks, no plans for tint. I don't like doing anything to my car that I can't do myself.

I so envy you Andrew. Your car is so clean. Just love it. Mine has been parked in garage from last two days and full of dust. Looks like . Wish I had a silver or white color.

woody knob

i wanted to change out the shift knob with a wooden one but the RL, MDX, etc ones were too $$$. went with something more in my budget, 2 1/4" wooden ball knob for all of a $1.25. drilled the hole out to slightly under 10mm and screwed it right on. loving the contrast. just wanted to have some fun with the interior, not trying to be a 917
