White LED Footwells Front and Rear

I got done with these awhile back, just thought I would share. They are more like courtesy footwells; turn on when doors open, and when unlocking/ locking the car. I didn't want them blinding me while driving... I also have them going to the side compartments off the center console.

BTW: I "amateurly" wired them to the back dome light switch.

looks pretty cool. i really wanted to do that, but i couldn't think of what to do to have the lights on the bottom of the front seats to illuminate the rear. do you think it would be possible to maybe tap into the electric of the power seats to supply power to them? though im not sure what the kill switch would be.

thumbs up to another vortex blue 10 though. love mine =)

I was gonna put them of the bottom of the front seats too. However, I just put mines on the bottom sides b/c I couldn't find a power source near there that would turn on and off the lights automatically. Also to keep the install clean and easy.

I did something like this a while back. I bought two blue LED strips and stuck em under the front seats and wired and tapped it to the stock front LEDs.

When I say I "amateurly" wired it to the back dome, I meant it [lol]. I basically took a wire and soldered it to the rear dome light bulb leads.

After that I ran the wires behind the pillars and seats and through the sides of the car. (RED lines are simulated wires)

After that the wire is ran throughout both sides of the car behind the plastic piece (next to the door stills) to the front footwells.

The rear LEDs are "t-tapped" to those wires.

Here are the side compartments off the center console. It's lit up, but the sun is a little too bright.

Job well done. That's a lot cheaper than the OEM version.

I took a drill bit and drilled a hole exactly the same size as a single LED on the left side (on the pic) behind the plastic. So basically when your sitting the car seat, the LED is facing towards the front windshield. The pocket lights are 12V single LEDs wired to the footwells using "t-taps".

very clean job bro...but here are some things i noted:

1> you installed footwell LEDS but those look more like spot lights....they should be like flood lights....catching my drift ? it should be able to light up the foot area....

2> there is a wire running from the dome LED's to the side...but you did a good job of wiring it all the way to the dome LED if you were not sure which wire it was....

here is how mine looks like....i like blue and hence:

well I like blue as well, but I'm also thinking maybe I'll just combine both, like have blue for the courtesy lights and footwells but have white for the vanity and domes

I'm just thinking that since the TSX already comes with blue footwell lights and a blue led light in the maplight area, I might continue with blue all around...

but wonder if blue all around would make it look ricey haha.

dont overdo it and it will be fine....a lot of blue lights inside will make it look ricey....if its well done then you have nothing to worry about....

I found the wire going to the dome (it was 1 positive, red and 1 negative, green). But on the dome itself there is a switch for door/on/off. This led me to believe that the wire has constant power, and it is the switch on the dome that controls when to fade the lights according to the door. But if this is not true please let me know, I originally wanted to wire it to those, and it would have made my life a little easier.

Btw... I dig your door stills!

Thanks bro!

I definitely didnt think about the fact that its probably a constant 12v, thats a good call on your part in that case, but it most likely is

What i plan to do is tap the ground wires which are connected to the two front door switches, and tap any constant 12v for the power, this way they are only on when the door opens. Sounds like tapping the dome may be a good idea too.

You are very brave to drill into the car though let me say lol

Haha, you should see the pencil size hole behind the rear headrest... I regret that. But, then again they are so small I didn't think someone would notice.

Your "project teaser" seems like it's coming along well though. The idea of using the doors ground and constant 12v sounds efficient (since your doing the front doors only?). It's gonna be a lot of wire to run from the back dome. However, that method was fairly easily to do (about 15 min).

^^^ that is true but there is also a constant 12V (when you open the door) present in the door wire relay....and a ground....

you can just wire it to that, my sills are....so the sills go on when the door opens....i wish i could tell you the color of the wire but since I have a TL and you got a TSX they will be different....but you can take the door switch off and see the color of the wire....do not test the sills with the switch out of the door since the screw acts like the ground of the switch....

Again the switch wire is HOT (12V) when you open the door...so you need not find a 12V constant....you need the find the ground wire....catch my drift ?

Thanks for the complement on the sills

I think wiring it to the door switches is a good idea....initially i had the sills wired to a kill switch so i can turn them on and off anytime....but then i thought wiring it to the door switches will be a good idea, but i love having the lights on while driving (drives them bitches crazy )....so i wired them to the ignition fuse #32 in the TL...so when i turn the key the lights come on and stay on through out....

but i have to agree....OP got the balls to drill in his car and cut a circle in the carpet (assuming)
