As attractive as a diesel option might be, I don't drive enough these days to make the fuel savings from a diesel worth my money. Plus, there isn't a station in the immediate area around where I live that sells diesel, making it a hassle to get fuel.

The more I think about it, the more I think I will probably keep the TSX and just soldier on with it until the end of my lease. I am just so antsy to get a new car though...

If they offer a type-s version thats turbo then maybe. But they will or an after market company will have to come out with a new grill b4 i buy one (or just swap the EDM one)

Well since I'm here I gotta say, I'm hip to the diesel. In honor of Rudy Diesel (we would have been pals so he'd be cool with me calling him Rudy) I want to be the first guy In the USA driving an Acura thats running on grease from McDonalds.

my buddy makes bio-diesel and throws it in his F150 all the time...the TSX diesel option makes this tempting to me but im pretty sure putting bio in it would void all types of warranties...i wonder if there is a way to check?

Sorry I'm so late, I was watching hockey last night so I didn't see the new '09 crib. I would of brought beer but then I remembered it's a forum, not an actual housewarming party.

I think I'll sit on the fence until all the polls are in; how it looks in person, price points, what kind of rates dealerships will offer, and of course if it puts a smile on my face. All these (and more) are important in deciding whether or not to kick it to the curb or jump in.

I'm very happy with my old boy ('04), and even though it seems kinda lame, I'd have a hard time giving up my indigo blue 6MT. It's somewhat a rare color for the TSX and I'm really enjoying it.

All my visceral senses are gonna have to be extra tingly to commit to an '09.

Hey guys. Why would you guys choose a diesel? Isn't the acceleration from zero weak? Wouldn't it be a whole new way of driving since the torque is all in the low band meaning?

But current clean diesels have excellent economy and efficiency. They aren't designed to be 1/4 mile track stars, but if you can get an excellent city car with more than enough off the line power and still 40mpg, I'd call it a win. Some have even lower emissions impact than other clean gasoline cars, like the new VW diesels.

Oh I'd love the 40 mpg. But I think it'll feel kind of weird coming from a gasoline car.

Diesel engine make bucket loads of torque very low in the RPM range and typically redline much lower than their petrol counterparts. Gearing is every thing here. In Europe you can get a BMW 335 diesel (I forget it real designation I think it's a 335tdi) it makes a little less HP that the 335i, but it makes about 60 lbs/ft more torque.

For example, I got my ass kicked last summer at the track by a F350 turbo diesel with big ass tool boxes built into the bed (probably still filled with tools), his girlfriend in the passenger seat, and he probably had the AC on. The place he beat me was the first 60 feet, by a half second. He ended up running a 14.3 at 90mph, I was 14.8 at 97mph but the time slips showed it, he destroyed me right off the line.

It's just called the the 335d actually, and is a twin turbo version of the engine found in the 330d - the only difference being the extra turbo; one for low RPM's and one for higher RPM's.

I drive a 2004 turbo diesel Accord and the comments above are correct - you have to drive oil burners differently to petrol powered cars. Looking at a 0-60 time for a diesel is the wrong way to assess it's performance potential. It's the real-world driving where you get the advantages, like the way it pulls from almost idle on a huge wave of torque and once it gets into it's stride, it simply pulls like a a train. From say 3rd gear at around 25-30mph, there is a huge slug of torque that takes you easily past 60mph, but as said, it's the gearing which is key. The sweet spot in power band is from around 1750 RPM's up to about 4000 RPM at which point you have to change up, but then again, you're right bang on the next wave of torque and it pulls with real vigour once again.

Based on their previous vtec engines, we may find that the Dtec diesel may have a higher redline than a typical diesel.

That's total speculation though.

Yeah it does smell a bit, but you don't get the smell in the cabin of the car.

All i ever do is wear disposable gloves at the filling station to prevent any trace of the fuel getting on my hands, because if you do get it on you (e.g. slight leaks from the unions/fittings on the trigger and handle etc), you will catch a smell of it every now and again whilst driving.
