Unlock doors after using remote start

For reference, I have a 2013 TSX Wagon with Technology package and had the factory remote start added when the vehicle was new (original owner).
I tried a search and only found a few old threads regarding this issue and I was hoping that someone may have come up with a hack or fix for the remote start issue on the "older" Acuras equipped with the factory remote start system.
For those who don't know, once the factory remote start is activated, the vehicle's key fob will not unlock the car unless the remote start is deactivated. Also, if you use the key itself to manually unlock the doors, the engine will shut off. Despite Acura claiming this to be a "feature" it can be incredibly frustrating.
This is incredibly frustrating when dealing with packing two children in the car and all of my GM vehicles seem to work just fine with the remote start continuing to run while allowing me to unlock the vehicle and step inside.
Has anyone figured out a fix to this issue yet?
