Hey guys. I am about to get some rims and tires, and saw on the site where they were advertising sensors with the package. It made me realize that I might have trouble with the tire pressure sensor if I change rims.

What do I need to know about that? Is there a way I can just transfer the old ones into the new ones? How does that work, exactly? Thanks guys.

You can transfer the old ones to the new rims or buy new ones. The car is "self-learning" so the new TPMS sensors will be automatically registered the first time you drive a few miles. However, make sure they use the correct sensors (obviously), and that, if you use the old sensors, the batteries are still good and will outlast the new tires.

Thank you for the reply! Do you know how I can check the batteries? I am just going to use the current ones. How often do they need to be replaced? I didn't even know such a thing existed. I have been driving a 2000 Avalon for years.

You need a TPMS tool that will read the signal, but it only says "ok" or 'low". No way of really checking the battery level. I personally replace the sensors if they are more than 5 years old when I am getting new tires to avoid the expense of having to remove/rebalance the tires when the sensors go bad...

Interesting. Maybe I will just keep the stock rims for a while. I am starting to think that this will be too big of a hassle/expense just because I want black rims.
