Side windshield trim is lifting

I bought the car with a bit of a lift on the window trim and used some silicone adhesive to keep it down. It didn't last long and now the trim got in a fight with the car wash. Other than regluing it, what is the best fix? I know it is a common problem.

My dealer replaced both under warranty and hasnt been a problem in 2.5 years

Yep mine came loose after I had them replace the windshield. They fixed again and it's been fine for a couple of years now.

Should I just take some stronger adheaadh to it? I'm guessing my previous glue job + dirt in the area it snaps in is going to make a new replacement difficult

Yup, mine came loose too around 27k miles. That was four years ago. Dealer fixed it under warranty and haven't had any problems since.

BTW, the clips were broken, so the dealer ordered a new part. Maybe that's why your DIY effort didn't hold.

see attached TSB. Any decent RTV will work for adhesive.. I did this last year.

good luck

Finally got tired of seeing the trim lifted. Too expensive to not try a repair on it. A first attempt of RTV (silicone) failed. At first I was going to JB plastic weld it to the windshield, but really did not want because of how permanent it would be. I looked at the trim and noticed what actually broke, they are just little plastic pieces. I removed the trim and busted out my JB plastic weld and now it is strong as ever. Snapped right back into place and looks good as new. Here are some photos:

Product used (great stuff to have around the house):
Used a pick to unclip this white clip at the base:

My passenger trim piece actually flew off on an exit ramp on the highway a few weeks ago. I turned around to go back and try to find it but no such luck. Since it is a painted trim piece, it is quite pricey ($167) to replace so a word to the wise to make sure you are securing this piece down if it does come loose.

Thank you thank you thank you! I have been looking for this service bulletin all morning! Dealer fixed once and trim flew off again 4 years later. I am going to do the repair and needed this. :)

I ordered a new trim piece and did the repair myself a few weeks ago. It wasn't too bad. Make sure you use a strong bonding agent if you are replacing any of the metal brackets.

I ordered this from Amazon recommended by this board. Almost two years and it never came apart.

3M 08008 Black Super Weatherstrip Adhesive Tube - 5 oz.
  • 3M 03618 Adhesive Remover - 12 oz.

Thanks! I ordered extra brackets as it looks like the top one is what broke. Do I just scrap all the old off first?

ImBroke 07-10-2019 05:51 PM

I sprung for the new part. All I need is for the wife to move down here so I can attempt the repair. I know the PDF says Konishi Bond, but I don't read Japanese to figure out which one I need. When my CL goes in for the airbag fix, I might ask the Acura Techs. If they don't know, I'll use what's been recommended.

I used 3m weatherstrip adhesive and it worked just fine.

Finally got around to replacing my part. I used the 3M black stuff, and all is well.
