Request advice on instrument cluster fix, brightness knob broken
We recently got our 2010 Basque Red Pearl TSX, certified from an Acura dealer, and have overall been very happy with our purchase. Upon coming home and playing around with everything, we found that the instrument cluster brightness control knob was broken.
I've since returned to the dealer and the service department has verbally agreed to do the fix, but said that the entire instrument cluster would have to be removed... and ordering parts would take a few days, etc. In addition, they said replacing the cluster involves dealing with the odometer and they need to bring in a special technician for that (to prevent tampering or something).
I find it hard to believe that replacing a simple plastic knob would be so invasive, so I did some research. All the meter components are easily found (AcuraOEMparts.com page) and the knob itself is a cheap $3.49 part.
I can imagine that the labor may be quite intensive, especially having to remove all those panels to get to the broken piece of the knob that's stuck inside... but odometer technician? Really? Perhaps the LED conversion experts can chime in...

Just looks like the plastic peice snapped off? Put some superglue on it and push it back into place? Seems like that would be the simple solution.

removing the entire cluster can be done in about 10-15 minutes, its not that intensive. i could see the whole "tampering with mileage" thing being an issue, but i'd honestly probably just DIY and never mention it to the dealer again
