Replacement Key Fob?

So I just purchased a 2012 TSX SE and it came with the OEM Driver 2 fob and valet key. What is the most cost effective way to get a second key made? I see non-oem knockoff switchblade fobs with blank keys on them for under $30 but could a locksmith or dealer program this type of key?

They *could*, but it's hit or miss if they'll want to try with an aftermarket key. A locksmith would likely be more willing than a dealer.

In any case you should be able to get the key cut at most places but will need somewhere that has the Honda MVCI to register the key transponder to the cars PCM. Honda/Acura dealers and high tech locksmiths will have them.

Good luck!

Dumb question, but I bought my TSX used and it didn't come with a valet key. Is there a way to lock the trunk release from inside the car? If so, how? Otherwise, I don't really see the point in having a valet key.

Thanks.

There is something called an owner's manual. If the car didn't come with one then you can download it from the Acura owner's site.

I was in the same boat with the push start smart key in January or so (except I lost my key). The actual keys are a lot simpler than the push start smart key system to replace. The only thing I'd personally be worried about with the knockoff key for a non-push start car would be the build quality. I ordered an OEM fob fob from Bernardi at a $40 or $50 discount, iirc, but I didn't realize that it didn't come with the emergency key, so I just bought a knock off emergency key on amazon for $10 or $15 or something, and had my dealer program and cut the key. The quality was noticeably subpar to OEM. I only need one key and the other is on my key holder at all times, but if you're using both keys, I'd be worried about dropping the key and cracking the housing... just my 2 cents...
