Oil Consumption Issues 2.0

So I finally made it in for servicing as mentioned in an older thread regarding oil consumption. Just to recap, I have a 2012 TSX 6MT with 45,000kms. About a month ago, I noticed the red oil light on while taking a corner in a parking lot. Checked the oil to find barely any showing on the dip stick.

The service advisor at my local dealership said it is a known piston ring issue that goes back to 2009 but strictly with manual transmission models only. Ok, sure! So the engine is being rebuilt next Monday

Great! Whereabouts in Eastern Canada are you located? It would be nice to know which dealership you brought your attention to, as not all of them would be as inclined to rebuild the engine as this one was.

Does Acura really expect anyone to believe that they have an AT engine production line and a separate MT line?
There must be an oil control ring problem at high rpm - 6K+ - that the AT cars rarely achieve.

Atlantic Acura in Halifax. They have been great to deal with.

Glad to hear they were helpful. I had a great experience with my Acura dealer in the Toronto area. The consumption tests took quite a few visits -- and -- the overall engine job was 3.5 weeks in duration. No complaints, I had a sweet new TL to boot around in during the time

It's been 3 years for me since I had the "operation" and everything is good -- I hit the high RPMs all day, everyday.

Hope your car runs like a dream when you get it back.

Hey which dealership did you end up going to? I'm from Toronto as well and if this were to ever be an issue for my 2013, I'd love to go straight to the dealership that you went to

Btw, I may have seen your car around Liberty Village before! I work at the Cisco office at Liberty/Dufferin

My Car has the this exact issue and Acura refuses to do anything since it's an automatic, I did an oil consumption test last year and it did not show any loss but that test was over a few weeks, over months I'm good for a 1/2 quart and it's a 2009 with 60k miles, it's great just like the cars from the 70's

Gunn acura in San Antonio Texas took care of my concern after an oil consumption test. I argued them about the motors being the same and trans has no difference. That was only the beginning, but to shorten it up it took a month...

An update on the rebuild from last month:

It went well... service had it for three days. Picked it up and noticed a weird vibration/drone seeming from inside the car only (likely a loose motor mount or exhaust). The next day it was fixed, all while leaving me with a RDX tech. I put about 2000kms on it with no issues until last week both the orange and red oil flashed at separate times. Once with the wife driving and the other I was driving. Sure enough it was low on oil again... back to Acura it went yesterday. They closed today with ''snowmageddon'' so I suspect I'll hear something tomorrow. Service has rebuilt, I quote, ''lots'' with mine being the first one to have refractory symptoms.

In the mean time, the MDX tech was a freakin blast in the snow to and from work!

Heard from Acura today... the rings they put in during the last rebuild were apparently ''faulty''. Round 2 should be finished by middle of next week. In saying that, I have decided to replace it with a '15 RDX as there is a great deal going on now. Also, I have noticed a significant reduction of swearing while placing my twin girls in the back seats of the RDX versus the TSX. I can't believe I've lasted a year!
