New 2013 TSX SE Owner

I picked up a Black 2013 SE with 39,000 on it about two weeks ago and I love the car, it is missing a few things my 06 TL w/Navi had, I was a little let down that the memory seats do hold the mirror settings for the two drivers or the radio settings like my TL did, but other than that its a huge step up.

Its funny, the two cars I was looking at were a 15 V6 TLX and the 13 TSX, and I just liked the TSX more. What is prompting my post is that on the way to work this morning, I saw another TSX that was de-badged, with the SE back end, but no side additions, or front spoilers. I was wondering how the community feels about removing the badging from the back of the car.

Also has anyone added a backup camera to an SE, and if so what did you use?

Thanks,
Randy

Hello and welcome.

Debadging the trunk was my first mod. Floss, heat gun, and goo gone for clean up. Lettering all off except for the central (A) logo.

I believe there are a few posts regarding adding an aftermarket rear back up cam if you search around.

Congrats on the SE and welcome to the forum! I just picked up my 3rd tsx this last Saturday. So glad to have one again! I think most people on here like the de-badged look and leaving the A logo as ulrblitzer mentioned. Good luck and happy modding

Welcome. I am glad you are happy with your choice. I was looking at used 2016 ILX's (probably loaners), 2016 accords, and 2016 malibus. All these vehicles were superior tech wise, mpg, etc. However, the driving experience and the exterior style stood out most with the TSX's. I got a 2012 black on black base, so I am missing a back up camera like you. I am deciding to do a double din radio install with a back up camera, or may cheap out and just get bright LED back up lights to help out (20% tints make it hard to back up, especially at night).

Does anyone have first hand experience with the Acura Care Extended warranty? For the cost and what it covers it seems to be the way to go, but I would love for someone who has used it to say 'Yep, wouldn't go with anyone else!'

Also, I am terrified to use a heat gun on the car to remove the badging, Scared I will muck up the paint.

Yep, the Acura Care is great. I would NEVER go with an aftermarket warranty. Buy yours from Curry, Saccucci Honda or the like - far cheaper than your dealer. Get an online quote from Saccucci Honda (google Saccucci Acura warranty).

You don't need to use a heat gun - just a hair dryer to warm the area up then dental floss to cut through the adhesive.

But remember, this isn't a new car so the area under the badges will be pristine - and the rest will be weathered.

Yeah, use a hair dryer if you don't feel comfortable with a heat gun. It'll take longer, but doable. Just don't aim the heat at one spot for too long. Move it back and forth until the adhesive on the back of the lettering is soft so the floss/fishing line can cut through. Do a little detailing after you are done to clean it up (buff/wax) so it's not obvious that there are decals missing from your trunk.

Depending on where you live, parking the car so the trunk is facing the sun on a warm summer day will have the same result.

You're not trying to liquify the adhesive, just soften it so you can cut through it with the floss or string. The adhesive is basically a double sided 3M automotive tape or similar product. Not quite a foam core but a soft, flexible polymer or something. Just add a little bit of heat and go for it. Feel the trunk area where you're heating it, it shouldn't get much warmer that it would in the heat of summer, figure 120-130F.

Happy modding, and welcome!

I debadged mine the other day. Used a hair dryer to warm it up and from there just loosened up the badges with some floss so I could pull them off.

Thanks for the tips! Looks like I am going to have to wait until we get some warmer days here. Maybe the same day I ad the Lip Spoiler.

Yup, hair dryer is great and a little "goo gone" for any residual. Also, plasti dipping the emblems looks great sometimes too. Mine are plasti dipped matte black and I have a black car. Congrats on the purchase!
