Need help ASAP - Bearing Issue
 

Hello. I own a 2009 TSX with automatic transmission, which is at 119,000kms (roughly 70,000 miles)

A few months ago, I replaced the front left wheel bearing following a constant noise, most noticeable on smooth roads. Problem resolved. But the same day after leaving the garage and while on the highway, I heard and felt a vibration which is most noticeable at 70mph. (A month or 2 later, I now feel it slightly at lower speeds as well.) *It is not a shaking during acceleration I have read of numerous times in many other threads.*

The vibration/noise occurs for 2 seconds, then stops for 1 sec and repeats. It sounds and feels very close to a phone vibrating on a desk. I feel it on the steering wheel. I do not recall feeling this before replacing the left wheel bearing, but cannot say for sure as the current vibration/noise may have been drowned out by the left wheel bearing.

Acura told me it’s the intermediate shaft bearing. I have an appointment next week and am looking at $500 to replace, if there are not any other parts, such as the shaft itself.

My general mechanic, which changed the left wheel bearing is telling me it’s the right wheel bearing. I am skeptical because the vibration/noise is not constant as it was on the left....is this normal?

Can anyone please tell me what they think it is before I go and drop several hundred more dollars? Is it the intermediate shaft bearing? Is it the right wheel bearing? Or maybe it’s the left wheel bearing which was replaced and defective or badly installed? Is it a driveshaft??

we cant test those items over the internet....
Look for play on the passenger wheel bearing, look for play on the intermediate shaft bearing...

this means lifting the car up and checking for play.

when ONE guesses without testing components, ONE will spend copious amounts of money chasing problems.

side note; did you use an OEM wheel bearing??? Aftermarkets always cause trouble

I used an SKF FW26 bearing i.e. "higher end" after market.
