Keep upgraded TSX or move to Lexus RC 350

Hey guys hope you're doing well. I've had a 2G TSX since 09. 6SP MT with the Aerokit.

It's bee a great car with 100,000miles (160,000km) I'm starting to get bored with the car. This is a daily driver for me, I use it to go to work downtown 25km from here and some of the time is spend in traffic.

Was thinking of moving to a Lexus RC 350

I'm 36 years old. What would you do in my situation? Keep the car or sell and get RC 350 F Sport?

Thoughts?

Thanks!
S

Hey man, I think I seen you at Liberty Village before; clean car if that's yours! My company moved to a different building on Queen's Quay though... but yeah, traffic sucks, and it's definitely not a great feeling with a 6MT in the city. Man, another side note, if I didn't love my car so much because I bought it new, I'd consider selling it and buying yours off you for the 6MT haha. But, besides the point.

How much of a downpayment would you need to get the RC 350? Also, what's the going rate for an 09 6MT right now? Would the added expense to get the RC 350 be worth the excitement it brings? Also, have you test driven the car? I know, a lotta questions, but I think these are things you should ask yourself in addition to getting some insight from the forum.

Lastly, do you enjoy mods and aren't afraid of taking risks with the projects you? Me personally if I had a 6MT, I'd probably boost the car. You're out of warranty already so it's not a huge deal, the car has depreciated to a point where it's not such a huge deal if something goes wrong, and with some help you can definitely get this car from boring to exciting as hell. Sure it'll still be FWD so you can't drift, but you'll have a really exciting car nonetheless. If drivetrain is your biggest concern, then I say consider the RC 350.

Don't get me wrong, the Lexus have great styling both inside and out, and will be high performing no doubt and will be wicked fun to drive as it's RWD. But is this cost worth it? Just need to evaluate how much more fun this car would be (after a test drive of course), and what that's worth to you, and compare it to the added costs of purchasing it. I would have a lot more fun modifying the TSX IMO, especially turboing it. Oh and don't forget, mods for the Lexus are going to cost at least 2x as much, if not more! Just things to think about I know I went on and on.

Let us know how you feel and (if so) what you've decided on!

So you want the Lexus RC 350 to become your new daily?
I say keep the TSX and get another car, if you are thinking new, there are plenty of great cars in the $42K+ price range far better/fun than the RC350..My .2 cents

As someone who is close to retirement, you can't have enough savings. Keep the TSX, put the money in the bank.

The RC F Sport is a nice car. If you can afford and like it then by all means go for it. Post some pics if you get it.

I have had my TSX for a little over 7 years / 92,000 miles. Dont know how much longer I'm gonna keep it. The current Acura offerings are just too vanilla for me. I also am looking at other brands like the Lexus F sport models.

You can do whatever you want. We don't know your financial situation so we can't give you much advice.

That being said, the RC350 looks cool so you should buy it.

these threads are pointless!

he'll take in consideration of what we have said; but then ultimately buys whatever he wants.

if OP wants a RC350, OP should buy it

I drove both the RC350 F-Sport and the RC-F at a launch event....the "vents" on the rear of the RC350 are fake along with the quad tips on the RC-F. RC-F has the torque vectoring e-diff, but doesn't get AWD. If you want AWD then F-Sport is the way to go.

I haven't seen any positive reviews of the RC350 or the RCF. I'd buy any of it's competitors over the RC anyday. In pretty much every comparo both of those cars finished dead last by a sizeable margin.

I wouldn't do it for the RC (ugly imo). I'd get a Hellcat.

The overall shape/profile is nice. Long hood, short overhang, sweeping roofline. etc. The details and execution is horrible.

Another vote for the Corvette! Also consider a Camaro or Mustang. These three would be more fun than that over priced Toyota.

The Ford finally got with the times & gave the Mustang rear independent suspension. Would not recommend the Chrysler products right now due to lacking quality.

If the TSX is paid off, keep it and get something more impractical like an S2000.

Thanks for the compliment -- I really appreciate it. Queen's Quay isn't so bad, there's a Path Access over the bridge now from Union if you decide to take the train in!

The 6MT is probably the #1 thing I'd miss in the car. It's just so nice, refined and feels good to use. It's feels like perfection to me (I know some might disagree) and it's really not bad in traffic. It's a bit of stress relief.

My only reason for going 350 was that it's free. There were some HUGE Lexus incentives going on, I pretty much knocked of $8000 from the price of the car, plus another $1000 through shady lease-financing loophole so it was an opportunity that I don't think I'd be able to pass on -- especially knowing the Canadian dollar is in a slump and 2016 models may reflect some currency exchange challenges.

The good news is that my younger brother will be taking it over. So I'll continue to offer "guidance" on this thing as he works on it. Hopefully, I'll get a chance to get it back from him down the road when he's ready to upgrade

I work at King and Yonge now (we also moved offices) so if you ever wanna grab lunch let me know, would love to chat TSX!

Aww man, you guys are awesome - I appreciate the feedback. Corvette would be amazing, doesn't work for my work / personal life sadly!

The RC 350 is certainly polarizing, some people love it -- some hate it, I really hated the F out of it from concept until a few months back when it really grew on me. It's certainly not the fastest, the 428 smokes it, let alone the 435. But with the A5 being so played out and long in the tooth and the 4-series feeling so bland inside and out I thought I'd give this thing a go. It comes with a whack of tech which for the purposes that I'm using the car for now, value greater than a few of the performance aspects.

It is quite refined and comfortable (must be my old age kicking in), looks pretty nice in real life if you pick a nice colour and while it's not a "sports car" by any means, it is fun to drive (Not side ways through a corner fun... but fun...). A different feel than TSX, less real, but rewarding. My other problem is that my drive into work and back is traffic traffic traffic and my few opps to gun it are typically manned by the photo-radar paparazzi. Also, my days of being able to drive wrecklessly at 2:45am are over, *sigh*

I really needed something a bit more modern that I could show up to client meetings in. I get a bunch of tax write offs and when coupled with my "car allowance" from work the car costs me exactly $27.87 a month out of pocket on the lease (including my down). I was losing those write-off opps on the TSX (and just paying mad tax to the government) so decided to just get it.

I would've loved to have kept the TSX and continue to work on it but, driveway space is an issue (we live in a hyper urban setting, two spaces, darn wife!) so sadly I have to get rid of the TSX -- but -- to my younger brother, so hoping we'll join this board. You guys have been awesome. Appreciate all the help and support.

The TSX in general is a super amazing car. I've always been curious about the Hondata + RV6 + Intake -- would've been great to feel what that felt, but wasn't ready to sink another pile of cash into this thing. I'm really sad to see it go, because it is such a pleasant to drive car. With that said, with my brother owning it I'll continue to be able to work and play with it and still dotted line be a part of this community! Maybe I might be able to get that Hondata upgrade after all

Here are a couple pics... it's just an F Sport 1 (but came with LED headlights, should be interesting)

Amazing! That is a sharping looking car! Congrats!

Both are great cars and I agreed the TSX is still a great looking car for its age.

Thanks man! I feel bad when I see it unwashed for weeks and it's still shining like this. Might have to find a way to keep it

Hey TS, I know them feels, same reason why I kept my G35 and got a 2015 FRS. I say grab the RC if it fits your budget, but I'm not sure if that car will be as fan as you hope it to be.

Personally I never saw the TSX for more than what it really is...A reliable daily cruiser with bit of style. I've heard it being mentioned by some as a 4 door S2K, but I'm pretty certain these people never driven a S2K before...Not even in the same league. Driving dynamics more similar to an 00' prelude, but feels way heavier.

It almost looks like a lexus engineer messed up on autoCAD when the designing the front grill. Like the mouse slipped and stretched out the bottom.
