Jiffy Lube?

is the closest oil change for me. If you use JL, do you get their Full Synthetic option?

If JL is no good, who would you recommend in Seattle?

TIA!

Honda dealership if you don't want to do it yourself. Stay away from Jiffy Lube.

Do Honda dealers also wash your car after an oil change? I'd feel bad calling to ask them :-P

Most of them offer it as a courtesy. Just depends if they have a machine wash or hand wash though. Either way, you're probably running a serious risk of getting swirl marks.

That's why most people who care about their cars will pass on the free washes. It's the general public that accepts the offer. You'd be better offer finding a self service place and washing it yourself...properly.

Good call, I haven't gotten a hand wash in years due to a scratch from them (independent carwash assembly-line) passing washcloths to each other via throwing and picking up off the ground along with pavement particles. Been using drive-throughs and vacuuming the inside myself.

Drive thru car washes and dealership car washes are the worst.

Have you tried the newer Chevron drive-throughs? Seems to do a pretty good job. Colorful lights and foam too.

Stay Away from JL!

I got a service fleet card for my company issue car, our cheap ass HR choose Jiffy Lube. I travel a lot and the service is bad all around. One easy incident, left side Day time running bulb was out, I had them replace it. A 15 min job max, I was in the lobby for 1.5 hrs! They couldn't figure out how to put the H7 Bulb back in, its held by locking mechanism. After I told them how too. They took me back to lobby, another 15 min pass and I asked what was happening, they said they couldn't get the headlights to turn on. I went out there and the morons hadn't plugged the socket back in! I pointed it out. They plugged it and it power on. I went on my way. Next morning, I always parked in front of my office, reflective windows and I can see my headlights lighting up like crazy on/off like strobe lights, I open the hood the morons had broken the retaining clip of the bulb, and it was touching the bare metal as the car moved, It took them 3 months to fix it, after many phone calls and I had to escalate to corporate.

A second incident, went in for plain oil change. As I took off check, engine light went off, I turn back around and pointed it out, they said that my car was misfiring and that I need it to replace coil, the car has 8,000 miles! its brand new. They also said they could not reset the light. I drove off straight to stealership (under warranty) and they said nothing wrong with the car and reset the light.

Besides the over price "oil change specials", they aren't that well trained. They are trained and required to complete Jiffy Lube University lol that's the same crap they would do at autozone, it's just a damn test that you read thru and answer 5-10 questions every 3 months on the computer. Unlimited tries until you get them all correct.

Oil change price is not competitive at all either, for what they charge, you are better off to go to Honda stealership or even Acura.

I can appreciate your lack of facility to perform a DIY oil change. However, consider this: I just changed the oil in my 2003 TLS. Oil = 5 qts. Valvolene High mileage synthetic blend 5W20 motor oil, on sale at Walmart, suggest list price $34.49, sale price, $ 16.47. Honda OEM oil filter, $7.74, includes correct oil pan drain bolt gasket, = $24.21 for parts alone. The local Meineke Auto service offers a basic oil change for $14.95. Imagine the quality of the motor oil, and oil filter your getting for $14.95, if even by chance Meineke is using the correct viscosity oil! Bite the bullet, TAKE IT TO THE DEALER, and at least reduce your chances of getting inferrior materials, and having your drain plug bolt stripped!

If it has brushes, screw it. That big muddy truck that just went through there before you. I cringe at people using the brushes at those self-car wash places too. I usually (even though it says do not) bring my bucket and own soap the one time a year that I go there. I haven't been in a while though, because I bought my own pressure washer, and buying a foam cannon in the spring. I have a friend with a E92 and uses the brushes...

Thx, good point of reference. Currently seeing that oil for $25 for a 5 quart jug at Walmart.

I ended up paying $100 + tax at an Acura dealer. I told them I didn't want the tire rotation (my tire seller offers it for free) and they took off only $10. Among the charges is $7 "shop supplies".

It's funny how their inspection lists my tire pressure. I'm hoping they just looked at the dash TPMS readings instead of measuring them by hand, unless if TPMS is unreliable.

Does using full synthetic make any difference vs synthetic blend?

Also, found another dealer a bit further out for $80 with rotation, reasonable enough for a long term solution. Guess that's why they had no availability last weekend while the $110 place was available all day.

Glad you got the oil changed, but you don't need to goto Acura. You'll get the exact same service and parts at Honda, with a greater chance of a lower price. Only difference is waiting in a Honda dealership lobby vs. an Acura one.

On the topic of oil changes, anyone ever swap out their plug? I've heard good things about the brand Gold Plug:

Gold Plug Magnetic Drain Plug AP-02 - Gold Plug LLC ? Magnetic Drain Plugs

Probably a bit gimicky but looks high quality.

marconi and Watt for headlight issue.

Northgate/San Juan for Check engine light.

Because I am stuck with fleet card, I like going to the one on West Sac, they try to up-sell you on the oil change and "fuel treatment" but I just tell them I am fleet and they know to not insist, plus they give you complimentary quick quack car wash coupon for the car wash next door.

There are quite a few companies that make plugs like that (Blox, Mishimoto, Ktuned). The magnet works, but hopefully everything is clean of shavings!

You can find Ktuned plug here for comparison: KTD-OIL-PLG - K-Tuned Magnetic Oil Pan Drain Plug - Excelerate Performance - European, Exotic and Japanese Performance Specialists!!

Yea I tried but my particular Honda dealer was laughably bad at communication. Wasn't going to force feed them some business.

Thanks for the info. Every time you post a link to a product I end up spending an hour browsing and want to buy the whole darn store haha

Dude this is such the damn Acura/Honda dealer by me its not even funny. It's like you are inconveniencing them by being there. Especially the person who walks you to the advisor.

^ This. For my Acura I take it to HONDA, $30-38 oil change price, be more slick and take coupon from other oil change places locally to the stealership, they price match. I have paid $15.00 for an oil change at Honda, yeah the lobby is not as nice or have free treats/snacks like Acura BUT go early and get free coffee and donuts at Honda lol

How come you take it to a dealer? Because of a service history? I'd think it would need to be service by Acura for that to matter. Doing a driveway job has always been my first choice. I know I'll do the most thorough job I can and dont have to worry about mystery oil.

I don't recall my Acura dealer having anything besides free water and coffee.

My mom called Honda to get an oil change on her Civic, Honda charges $65 for an oil change. I told her I will come by this weekend and change it....

I only do an oil change every 12-15 months, I drive the car on weekends only. $15.00 for Honda stealership to do it and I don't have to deal with recycling oil or cleaning/lifting the car, is the main reason. If it was $30-38, I would've done it my self and save $10-15 lol

I haven't been to Lasher since 2010. I live around the corner from them, but don't own a Acura anymore.

Wow that's a great deal.. but aren't you worried about the wrench monkey intern from HS stripping your drain bolts?

Also.. wow that's a long OCI. Have you done an UOA to see how the oil is after a year in the car despite low mileage? I rarely drive my car now but i still replace closer to 8-9 months

Holy Hell. That article on Jalopnik is absolutely heartbreaking. It's good the guy didn't drive away.

Pretty much. The two times I've had my oil changed at Jiffy Lube were both unfortunate. The first was on my '77 Camaro where they stripped the threads on the oil pan. It leaked oil from then on and there was pretty much nothing I could do about it. The other time they didn't tighten down the oil filter on my '93 Accord. As I was driving down the freeway I was leaving a smoke screen behind me like I was Spy Hunter or something, as the oil poured out of the gap between the filter and engine onto the exhaust. I pulled the car over, crawled under and tightened it by hand, getting burning oil all over my arm and work clothes. Wonderful. Needless to say, it's been nearly 20 years since those events and I haven't been back.
