Bought the car like this. I have no idea how/why they are are so bad but I'd really like to remove them. Can anyone suggest a polish/compound or solution the buff out these scratches?
you always have to figure out what kind of material it is.
once you know what kind of material it is, then one can suggest a product.
I feel that any type of abrasive polish will take the paint off of that. and will look WORSE.
your best bet would be to cover it with vinyl....or buy a brand new piece
if it is aluminium without any top coat of paint, then you can follow aluminium polishing steps.
Just something to consider... you can actually get some nice looking vinyls. Like a nice brushed metal looking vinyl would look very nice.
Do you have access to the TSX factory service manual? I assume it's kicking around somewhere on AZ. That would give you step by step instructions on how to remove the pieces. It's not something I would try without instructions, as you may miss a single screw and then cause issues when removing.
As also mentioned, you can just replace them with new/used OEM pieces. The problem is that new pieces are likely very expensive. Used pieces might be hard to come by and may have damage on them to some degree anyway.
While I'm generally not the biggest fan of wrapping something, in such a case, I think it makes sense, especially when you consider the costs. Unfortunately, there is no reconditioning damaged plastic.
Here's an example of a brushed metal wrap. You can get them in different colors, too. Personally, I think this looks pretty sharp and very OEM-like. For the price, it's a good alternative.

Wow that looks great. I would assume I would have to remove the trim piece regardless to properly wrap it?
I believe I found the parts for sale. They run about $90 a pop. Maybe I could knock out just the pass. side one above the glove box that is this worst.
Yeah you would have to remove them. But to be honest, you'd have to remove them either way you choose to fix them.
The beauty is, it's cheap to do... I'm willing to bet that you could wrap those pieces yourself. Up to you though. If you see value in spending $360 to replace all four pieces, then by all means. It really just comes down to how much you want to spend.
Dude nice find! There is a black version that exists for my 2012, runs about $170+shipping. Cool to have that option if I want to go an oem route. With the right tool, how hard is it to pop the clips off? I watched a video with trim pieces removed and saw how the clips look, but some looked like the would be difficult to remove.
I am still contemplating the vinyl wrap method, due to the price it is very appealing now that I have looked into it a bit more. I think a basic matte black would go very well.
Thanks! Looks like he did not use any of the trim removal tools either. Other than ripping up the center console it looks pretty easy. Time to start looking up vinyl wraps!
Got one trim piece done today to see how I would like it. The black looks nice, but I am still not 100% sold on it. There are a lot of variations of black in the cabin now. I'll finish the job and go from there. Its a sticker after all and easy to remove
I knew you could do it! Gloss black looks pretty slick too if you wanted another option. I've done my grille and B pillars in gloss and they look great.
Wrapped the rest of the pieces this morning. The two main center console trims were pretty difficult to wrap for me. Lots of bending/trim plastic to work around, It didn't come out perfect but for a $25 sticker, i'm happy with it!
If there are pieces that bother you, just pay a shop to wrap it. It's crazy what a skilled installer can wrap. They use various tools, including a heat gun, to make everything look flawless. It isn't that expensive for them to do it either.
