High Pitched Whine increasing with engine RPMs

I've had this noise for a few months and its driving me crazy. it's a high pitched noise which increases with RPM and then i can't hear it past like 3k. Happens always, neutral, in gear, whatever.

WTF is it? Idler pulley? Tensioner pulley? trans?

ssjoeboe9 03-27-2015 02:33 PM

I thought you already posted this

iCrap 03-27-2015 02:45 PM

^ I think i did but i forgot all the respones or they were wrong.

I dont know for sure WTF it is. Google leads me to beleive its one of the pulleys going bad.

xtcnrice 03-27-2015 02:53 PM

Any vibration?

iCrap 03-27-2015 03:52 PM

Just the usual vibrations through the wheel but those have always been there.

NBP04TL4ME 03-27-2015 04:05 PM

Probably a bearing going in one of the aforementioned pulleys or alternator.

iCrap 03-27-2015 04:06 PM

^ I already replaced the alternator

I guess i'll order the two pulleys.

ssjoeboe9 03-27-2015 06:30 PM

Yeah, go whine somewhere else..

get it... lol

iCrap 03-27-2015 06:51 PM

oooh 2 funny 4 me

fbt 03-28-2015 08:52 AM

Open the hood rev the engine and listen. Use a stethoscope or a rubber tube to listen to each suspected component.

iCrap 03-28-2015 09:34 AM

I tried but it's impossible to pinpoint. all i can tell is it's on the left side (if you are facing the car).

So you can hear something with the car not on the road? You can then almost eliminate the transmission. Did you use a mechanics stethoscope?

ssjoeboe9 03-28-2015 10:10 AM

I can attest to the difficulty of hearing where exactly the noise is coming from. When I was having pulley problems it was really hard to tell where the noise was coming from with all the other components running...

But what you can do, if this noise happens all the time then take your belt off and go for a drive, if the noise is gone then you know for sure it's one of your pulleys. Again, good luck.

iCrap 03-28-2015 10:11 AM

^ no i did not use a stethoscope. Just my ears. Yeah the noise is there even with the car not moving and not in gear.

I guess i could just do that and not even drive. cause i would hear it instantly while the car is idling.

When i changed my alternator we found that the bearing had some rust on it (we opened it up). I wonder if some moisture has gotten into my engine bay and fucked shit up.

ssjoeboe9 03-28-2015 10:16 AM

Just try what I suggested and move from there

ssjoeboe9 03-28-2015 07:36 PM

so what was the result?

I didn't get a chance to do it yet.
This fuckin' day... :whyme: anyways it's too cold.

briq456 03-29-2015 12:24 AM

For me it was the A/C Compressor clutch bearings going bad. Finally got loud enough that the dealer replaced it. Noise gone.

iCrap 03-29-2015 01:02 AM

I really hope that's not what the problem is.. I wonder if that'd be under the 70k warranty?. doubt it.

briq456 03-29-2015 09:29 AM

They only replaced the clutch. Not the compressor.

iCrap 03-29-2015 12:36 PM

hmm ok. so maybe i'll just need a clutch bearing?...

anyways i'm getting ahead of myself i still have to take off the belt and see if the noise is gone....

ssjoeboe9 03-29-2015 12:57 PM

Yeah go do it already. It takes like 10 min

Did u heard a loud clunk also from the clutch compressor also ? Mine is a bit loud from outside the car , not so much from inside ! I wonder if this is normal !
sorry to hack the thread ! Thanks in advance

briq456 04-08-2015 01:02 AM

I do hear a cluck sometimes and seems to be louder the first time it engages after a rain. I figured just from some rust forming on the clutch plate. But once running it's more of a CLACK than a clunk. if that makes any sense.

Itr0059 04-08-2015 01:04 AM

Alright, is this a normal clanky noise ...lol ?

briq456 04-10-2015 02:45 AM

Clanky, no. But a sold clunk yes.

My car started a very faint squeaking noise on my trip

Only does it with ac on

Also only does it going up hill when trans shifts down a gear

I will have dealer look at it

Currently happening at 50 mph +

Can't believe so many things are going wrong on this tsx at only 30 k miles. Thank god for CPO warranty . My previous Hondas and accurate have been bulletproof

iCrap 06-18-2015 10:54 PM

so yeah i'm slow and still haven't ordered the part to fix it.

I know exactly what's causing the problem now. It's the idler. But where do I get an OEM one? All i can find is crap aftermarket stuff.

briq456 06-19-2015 09:20 AM

Acura Parts | Genuine Acura OEM Parts | Acura Parts Cheap

And you want Engine Mounting Bracket, that's got both the auto tensioner and idler pulley there.

_cassiemyers_ 01-30-2019 09:27 AM

I have a 08 Acura TSX and i heard a whining noise and even more when i turned so i replaced the power steering pump. Steering is good now but still makes a whining noise. Especially when i accelerate. Any suggestions?? It sounds like this on this video.

briq456 01-30-2019 10:27 AM

If it’s anything like the accord power steering pumps. It’s not the pump. It’s the little o ring that goes on the intake side of the pump. If leaks a tiny bit and caused the whine.

_cassiemyers_ 01-30-2019 11:22 AM

But did you leak fluid? Mine isn’t leaking at all. It’s still very full

briq456 01-30-2019 11:59 AM

Nope doesn’t leak at all. It’s pulling air in which causes the wine but no fluid loss.
