Guys..school me on carbon fiber dipping

i want to get my lower grill carbon fiber dipped to match my CTE carbon fiber beak. How close of a carbon fiber look can i get when dipping. i would most likely buy another lower grill than use whats on my car just in case it doesnt turn out good.
questions i have:
-how close of a look to carbon fiber can i get
-durability
-cost

i've seen rims done that way and they looked really nice and they did look like they were carbon fiber they guy said that those cf sheets come in different shades so i would think that you will be able to match the look almost perfectly

I've seen some dips look Like it was actual carbon fiber that's why I want to try it over vinyl. And yea I would be trying it on another lower grill and not the original.

Cool idea - and the patterns are kinda cool, but I wouldn't say they'd ever pass for true carbon fiber. I'd guess it definitely won't match the CTE CF beak and it would be very noticeable, especially if they're right on top of each other.

I think I saw a new M3 with aftermarket rims. I couldnt believe they were carbon fiber... now I think they were actually dipped. If so I could not tell the difference at all

yes it can be done at home, not too difficult it seems. i'd be willing to try it, i actually might. im curious what digi snow camo would like on the grill and wheels hahaha. but once again, i don't have 150-200 bucks to blow on the entire kit, anyone wanna donate, i'll test on my grill, then do your stuff free if you buy the film and send me your stuff haha

Cool. Who wants to post the link for where to order? I wanna see the different types of film! There are so many things this would be awesome for. Wonder if anyone tried dipping their balls lol. Imagine enkei razors dipped but only the spokes in silver cf. That would be so legit!!!

well, you can use your own tub i guess, there are professional type ones, i don't see the point. you also need a chemical activator spray, and the film. beside the actual hydrograph stuff, you should apply a base coat of paint to whatever you are doing to serve as the background. theres a bunch of sites where you can buy the kit, or stuff separately, i havent found the best one yet, needs a few more hours of research. here one link

el paso apparently has gotten some bad reviews from the guys at liquid concepts about their activator not being so great. I know there are a bunch of people on that site that are kind of 'up and coming' located around the country/world so there might be someone local to do a job on the cheap.

If you are doing small pieces I would go for a toss around pool that you buy kids from k-mart for $20 - $25. (the little plastic ones)

the prep and the top coat are very important.
I had my intake tube done and it had some IMRON CLEAR that never softened even sitting on top the motor.

also had A Pillars done. different approach. used a matte clear to keep glare down.

intake......
